Movie Reviews of The Story of Us

Movie Review: Hilarious and touching
Summary: 5 Stars

True love, somebody once remarked, includes wanting to throw the furniture at each other from time to time. This film is about a couple who have grown tired of these tensions which have virtually extinguished the tender moments in between. Willis and Pfeiffer are excellent as would-be divorcees.

What really impresses me about Rob Reiner's work is how he can make immensely entertaining movies that are perfectly realistic. Of course the audience will find it hard to understand how little faults can ruin a relationship - we have not been living with these faults for the last seventeen years. So we can laugh about them most of the time. We can see how ridiculous and petty the usual squabbles-turning-into-a-massive-row really are.

Sometimes we stop laughing, however, when the memories which keep floating back remind us of what a precious thing is at stake: Those two have been sharing a life. And the painful moments are just as essential as the happy ones. We realize that they will never manage to get rid of this shared history.

This is excellent stuff, which I found more touching than hilarious in the end, but that is a matter of disposition; the film can be read both ways. You won't regret watching it.

Movie Review: A Mirror Of All Rocky Relationships
Summary: 5 Stars

Whether one wants to admit it or not, if you were ever in a relationship that was going through a rocky time I'm sure there is some aspect of this film that you could relate to in some way, shape, or form. This is a film that hits a real emotional element in people who are going through or who have gone through a rocky relationship. The Story of Us is a film about two people who have come to a critical point in their relationship where it's time to decide if they go on to the next phase of their relationship or if they put an end to their story. In every relationship this point comes, whether the couple is married or whether they are just dating, there comes a point in all relationships where it's time to decide if it's a relationship worth sustaining and striving to improve, or if the relationship has reached it's end. The Story of Us does a good job in showing both sides of the relationship, the starting out point where everything is fresh and exciting and full of passion and the diminishing side which shows the fights and anguish. It's a poignant movie that anyone who is in a relationship or who has ever been in one should see for it almost forces you to look and examine how you are in your own relationships.

Movie Review: Good for people who are serious about their marriage
Summary: 5 Stars

A movie tackling marriage problems and solutions for couples who thought they have lost their feelings for each other. Nonetheless, it comes lighter and easier than the Oscar and box office hit "American Beauty". There is no killing, adultery, teen sex and whatever weird that attracts audiences to the cinema. It only has regular husband and wife caught and worn out by heaps of daily particularities and thought that they had "grown apart".

Bruce Willis is never known to be a king of acting, but he is needed in the movie, for you need a husband to fight with a wife on minute things but then found that things are not that bad after all. Michelle Pfeiffer, playing an organised wife who wants everything to be done according to schedules and priorities, as a result have a lot to express to make the story of them complete. Both parties are doing just well and got the chemistry for this pair of couple. Of course, the supporting roles do help a lot in adding all the spices and sugar to the movie - how could you imagine a movie with only two stars sitting in the dining room talking for one and a half hour?

One more than - Eric Clapton's soundtrack is just too good to miss.

Movie Review: The ups and downs of marriage.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Story of Us starring Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer is a witty and clever look at a marriage falling apart after 15 years. This film is serious and funny, I love the flashbacks and yes there a lot of them but it shows how their relationship developed and why they have problems just like every married couple in America. In my opinion, this film is Rob Reiner's third best film, his two best being Stand By Me and When Harry met Sally. Pfeiffer's performance at the end of the film is spectacular, her dialogue is so long and impressive, she just goes on and on, never skipping a beat, who knew she could be so comical? The Story of Us is a fresh, rewarding look at two lives who must decide if they want to go their separate ways or remain an "us." You just have to watch and see what happens, enjoy!

Movie Review: a male pig's perspective
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm sitting here, half drunk recently alone again. I put in the only "chick flick" romantic movie I own, "The Story of Us". Since the first time I saw this movie I have loved it, and I'm a war, epic film buff to see my collection. This is the only movie I asked for in my divorce because I wanted it THAT bad. Rob Riener's best work ever in my opinion. A movie that jumps around from place to time and back again so often, it keeps you riveted to the seat. The dialog is the heart of the story. And the way, under Riener's direction, Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer portray this stuggeling couple, makes me feel part of the story, not just watching it from a distance.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes sappy romance movies or believes in true matter of the heart.
