Movie Reviews of The Story of RuthMovie Review: BOAZ NOTICES RUTH GLEANING IN HIS FIELDS! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this movie! The Book of Ruth that's in the Holy Bible, has always been one of my favorite books of the bible! Eventhough, parts of this movie is NOT in the Bible, there are still some parts of it that ARE, in the Bible! And I still love this classic old movie ,about Ruth! I highly recommend this movie!
This movie is about a pretty little girl named Ruth, who was solded by her father, to become trained to live in a pagan temple, that worships stone idols, and Ruth may even attain, the so called high honor of being killed for this idol of stone, in Moab. While Ruth grows up in this temple, she has become a very beautiful woman, and she catches the eye of a very handsome man, named Mahlon who is a good man ,who believes in the only one true GOD, the God of Abraham!
Mahlon and his father and brother, all worked with carvings in gold, and stone. Mahlon and his brother and father, was assigned to make a crown of gold for the pagan temple, and Mahlon carried it to the temple, and was tolded to give it to Ruth. Ruth learns that Mahlon, does not believe in stone idols, and that he only believes in the one true God, and Ruth wants to learn more about Mahlon's one true God, and asks Mahlon to meet with her in secret! And Mahlon and Ruth fall in love, and Ruth starts doubting the pagan temple's teachings, about the stone idol, especially after Mahlon tells her, that he has helped make repairs to this so called stone god, that Ruth thought was protecting her. When the pagan temple priests, and the king of Moab, find out about Ruth and Mahlon, their life is changed forever!
Ruth ends up becoming a widow, and goes with Naomi, her mother in law to Judea, to start a new life, and Ruth wants to go where Naomi goes, and she now ,truly believes in Mahlon's one true God, the God of Abraham, and Moses. Naomi and Ruth are now widowers, and they have the right to glean for food ,in the fields of Judea. When Naomi's handsome kinsman, Boaz sees Ruth ,the beautiful widow from Moab, gleaning in his fields, their life is again, changed forever!
PLEASE also READ, the BOOK OF RUTH, that is in the HOLY BIBLE, and get GOD'S TRUE account, of this amazing story of so long ago! I have always found hope, in that God helps Ruth, get a second chance at love! She was also very lucky, in having a good mother in law, and Ruth was a very special woman, who had great courage, and she got a second chance, to have a new beginning at life, with Boaz! And from their lineage would later come KING DAVID, AND JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOR, WHO IS THE SON OF GOD!
Movie Review: A First Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is the first I've ever seen about Ruth and I will say that I loved watching this movie. The first half of the movie concerns her life in Moab and in the movie she was a priestess of the God Chemosh, a pagan God who demanded the sacrifice of young women to keep him happy. Ruth was to be sacrificed, but what spared when an blemish appeared on her skin. This will play out later in the film.
She meets a young Jew and becomes very interested in him and this leads her to eventually leave Moab and marry him. He dies and instead of going back to Moab decides to accompany her mother-in-law back to the land of her birth. When she gets there she is treated with disdain for being a Moabitess, even though she's embraced the Jewish faith.
She meets Boaz and their complicated relationship begins. The ending is already known to those who know the story, but the movie is a very nice one to watch the dramatization of the well known, but not told often enough story of Ruth, the woman whose line would eventually lead to Jesus.
I think this story is a very important one because of the content it contains. The movie was very well done in the spirit of the Book itself. I think the acting was very well done, the costumes fun and lively and the direction well done also. It's a keeper.
Movie Review: My all time favorite movie! Summary: 5 Stars
Years ago I happened to see this movie on TV and was deeply touched by it.
Years later in great happiness I was able to acquire a video.
I watch it when I need a spiritual boost. I think all the actors/actresses did a beautiful job. As stated above in other reviews, it does take a lot of liberties Scripturally for romance sake, but the spiritual overtones in this movie, in my opinion, completely make up for it. Elana Eden is wonderful, as well as all the male actors, and I think I have the story/movie memorized at this point, BUT I believe Peggy Wood captures my attention in many ways. While I don't know much about any of these actors, Peggy Wood plays such a spiritual role that I am hard pressed to think of other movies that match that in any other movie that I have seen in-- what she did for this movie. I so wish that other movies had that quality/level of spirituality. Together Peggy Wood and Elana Eden portray very spiritual women that is much to be admired. Elana Eden plays such a courage woman that her role is much to be admired in this movie. Again, I think it is the best movie that has ever been made.
I am so thankful I have this movie in my life.
It does something deeply for me.
God bless you all in Jesus' Name.
Movie Review: A great old movie Summary: 5 Stars
Wow--Hollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore! It used to be "okay" to talk about God in a positive way. Now, all you hear is His name used as a swear word, or ridiculed and scorned. What's so great about the old movies like this is there is no sexual inuendo, no attempt to make the characters with modern liberal sensibilities. The new movies always have to add something feminist, or liberal, sexy, or questionable which rings really false. The Story of Ruth has a lot of storyline added that is not in the Bible, but to me it is still a really great movie because what is added goes with the overall theme of the Bible. This was a favorite memory, and I was so glad to see it come out in DVD. It is innocent and clean, and it does a great job of giving us a wonderful true Bible story.
Movie Review: The classic movies are the best--the much loved Bible story brought to life! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great movie that illustrates the importance of loyalty! Ruth goes through a life changing encounter with a Jewish young man. This is amazing as she is a Pagan priestess. He awes her with his descriptions of Almighty God and his love for her. They marry after her conversion and so does life forever change for Ruth. She follows Naomi her Mother in law to Bethlehem. Life is hard for them, they are poor but help comes from two relatives of Naomi. The young men now vie for her hand in marriage.
It is a great family movie with one exception- small children may find the sacrificial element of pagan culture disturbing though nothing is shown but only suggested. Reserve this movie for 10yrs and up (at least the first part).
Enjoy!
