Movie Reviews of The Spanish Prisoner

Movie Review: Eccentric Bliss
Summary: 5 Stars

This has been my favorite film for quite a while and I've seen it many times. Some of the criticisms one will read about this film are exactly the reasons why I love it so much. The odd manner of language used is a charm to me. Pidgeon is wonderful in her role and performs it perfectly. Martin is scary in this unusual role for him and Scott plays an excellent naive boy scout type. This film is definitely not for everyone.....in fact, most may find it annoying or hard to watch. I find it delightful and challenging. I give this intelligent PG movie accolades for not succumbing to the sleaze and vulgarity that a lot of films portray. A work of art. Five stars.

Movie Review: One of the best of 1998
Summary: 5 Stars

A modern day film noir in the tradition of China Town and L.A. Confidential. Spanish Prisoner possesses a unique style that is missing from most movies today. Intriguing sets and locales, a winding plot, sophisticated characters, and a moody, mysterious tone throughout the entire film set this movie apart. True, as some reviewers have complained, the acting is somewhat understated, but the dialogue is intelligent and lends itself perfectly to the mood that Mamet is trying to create. If you're looking for explosions, gratuitous violence, product endorsements or cheaky one-liners, then this movie is not for you.

Movie Review: Gripping thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.
Summary: 5 Stars

David Mamet has a talent for coming up with the most elaborate confidence tricks in the book. I have to say that at times you wondered if the actors weren't rehearsing their lines with the film rolling, but that really does lend itself nicely to this screenplay. Are these people for real, or is this all a big scam? I really enjoyed this movie, but by far the best part for me were the interactive menus! Wow! It's really amazing the stuff the studios are coming up with these days. I can't hardly wait to see what they do next.

Movie Review: Great story with a lot of interesting twists
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I saw this movie, I was about 45 minutes into it an had no idea what was going on, but was enjoying every minute of it anyway. It's a great mystery with a lot of interesting plot twists. The writing is excellent and so is the acting, including Steve Martin in a totally serious role.

I don't want to tell you what the story is about, because I don't want to spoil the surprises. I'll just say that there are plenty of surprises and if you like a good mystery, you should buy this movie.

Movie Review: Your intelligence level can be gauged by your like or dislik
Summary: 5 Stars

Your intelligence level can be gauged by your like or dislike of this film. If you dislike this film, you probably have never been able to enjoy anything of literary or artistic achievement in your entire shallow existence. This film was immaculate on so many different levels that probably couldn't permeate your cartoon soaked brains. Mammet takes the cons he introduced in 'House of Games' and takes it to the Nth degree. This guy rules. If you liked this you will definetely like 'Glengarry Glen Ross'.
