Movie Reviews of The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season

Movie Review: "I feel like a kid in some kind of a store"---Homer
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally! A proper box for this excellent Simpsons season! I fits so snugly and looks so nice on the shelf with the others. Whoever thought of those head cases is a head case! Anyway, as for the season--it is great! The Simpsons kept improving each season until reaching its peak (in my opinion) in season 7. Then is started its rapid downhill plunge after season 8.

Season 6 is The Simpsons in its prime. It includes many of their best episodes, some of which are on my personal top 20 list (i.e. Bart's Comet, Lemons of Troy, Lisa's Wedding, Round Springfield, and Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part 1). The shows include: Bart of Darkness, Lisa's Rival, Another Simpsons Clip Show, Treehouse of Horror V (with parodies of the Shining and Mr. Peabody and Sherman), Bart's Girlfriend, Lisa on Ice (the ice hockey episode), Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy, Fear of Flying, Homie the Clown, Bart vs. Australia, Homer vs. Patty and Selma, A Star is Burns, Two Dozen and One Greyhounds, The PTA Disbands, The Springfield Connection (Marge becomes a cop). All the episodes are excellent (Springfield Connection is probably the weakest of the group), but to save space, the following are synopses of a few of my favorites of the 25 episodes in season 6:

Itchy & Scratchy Land: Lisa and Bart nag Homer into agreeing to a family vacation to "the violentest place of earth" with such attractions as "Searing Gas Pain Land" and "Unnecessary Surgery Land." The documentary on Roger Meyers Sr. is hilarious: he was criticized in 1938 for his cartoon "Nazi Supermen are our Superiors."

Sideshow Bob Roberts: This show includes a hilariously accurate parody of Rush Limbaugh, Birch Barlow. The Conservative talk show host starts an uproar to get Sideshow Bob out of prison and the vote-conscious Mayor Quimby complies only to face Bob in his reelection campaign. The campaign commercials are great!

Bart's Girlfriend: Bart falls for Rev. Lovejoy's daughter, Jessica, who is not what she seems.

Lisa On Ice: Lisa finally finds a sports position she is good at--hockey goalie. Unfortunately, Bart plays for a rival team.

Homer Badman: Homer is accused of sexual harassment by the babysitter. The media circus that follows is brilliant in its real world accuracy.

Homer the Great: Homer wants all the quirks enjoyed by members of the sacred fraternity The Stonecutters. He must honor the sacred parchment or his stomach will become bloated and his head plucked of all but three hairs...wait a minute?!?

And Maggie Makes Three: A touching look at the sacrifice Homer makes to afford the new arrival. He quits his dream job at the bowling alley to crawl [literally] back to Mr. Burns where he receives the customary de-motivational plague...er, plaque.

Bart's Comet: Bart discovers a comet and it's headed right at Springfield! The townspeople then engage in the classic debate of who should be saved in the limited bomb shelter space. A congressional bill to evacuate Springfield is voted down after a rider is attached to support the perverted arts.

Lisa's Wedding: This episode was voted #1 by TV Guide. It is one of my favorites, too. Lisa has her fortune read and learns about a love she'll meet in college (Hugh Grant parody, Hugh Parkfield). We then get a glimpse of the Simpsons family in the future. Lisa shows her devotion to her crude, yet well-meaning, father.

Round Springfield: Another touching episode where Lisa loses her friend Bleeding Gums Murphy and vows to keep jazzman's memory alive.

Lemons of Troy: Kids from the rival town Shelbyville steal the Springfield lemon tree (the sweetest fruit known during the time of their forefathers) and Bart and the gang are intent on getting it back. From this episode, we learn that the two towns were created due to a split that developed among a group of pioneers led by Jebediah Springfield and Shelbyville Manhattan over the legality of marrying cousins.

Who Shot Mr. Burns (Part One): In the spirit of J.R., Mr. Burns is shot after he steals oil from a well built on the Springfield Elementary School grounds and unleashes a device that blocks the sun's rays over the town. For poetic justice's sake (or maybe, there's more to it than that), Mr. Burns falls on top of the town sundial and the hunt is on for the shooter. Sounds like a good story for a sequel....

Movie Review: Bad shipping
Summary: 1 Stars

The box was broken, really broken. I've a simpsons collection and i'm disappointed by the quality of that one.

Movie Review: OK-but I prefer Season 8
Summary: 4 Stars

There are some great episodes in this boxed set, but some are real let-downs, such as the episode "Sideshow Bob Roberts". After "Cape Feare", I had high hopes for the fourth Sideshow Bob episode, but the only good bit was when Bart and Lisa tried to show that the other Mayor Elect was better and Bart got taken away by Bob's guard people. That was also the most suspensing bit, because those guys were about to do something... I won't say what happens though. My top five episodes were:
Lisa's Rival
Round Springfield
Bart's Girlfriend
Lisa On Ice
Bart Vs Australia

So buy the boxed set before it's sold out!

Movie Review: Great season of the best TV Show ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

All the negative reviews are just people complaining about the packaging (this was the first to offer two options) But the episodes in this season are some of the best, and so far my favorite episodes of the best TV show ever.
