Movie Reviews of The Shining

Movie Review: Also 5 Stars

I have heard a rumour..that Kubrick intended for this film to be shown on commercial home video in full-frame format however I am still very confused that such a perfectionist who would apparently demand 180 takes for one individual scene would allow a shadow of the camera helicopter to be blantantly seen at the start of the movie.....I am confused. Will someone EVER letterbox this Warners.....ARE YOU LISTENING?????

Movie Review: Absolutely the best
Summary: 5 Stars

This must be my all-time favorite. I think this is the scarriest film I have ever seen. Not in a way you fall out of your chair suddenly, but it was constantly scary. The hotel is totally empty (except for the family) and very quiet, but sometimes there are a lot of people, dancing and drinking. These imaginations are worked out really good. If you haven't seen this film yet, go kick yourself and make sure you see this film ASAP!

Movie Review: Three of entertainment's greats at their best!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not only was the film cinematically well done, quite haunting, and a step ahead of it's time(in the 80's it seemed all the horror flicks were all blood and guts-not quite scary, but disgusting!) but, it showcases three of the top entertainers of the century at their best. Stanley Kubrick, Stephen King and Jack Nicholson all contributed to this masterpiece and I believe the film would not be the same minus any one of them.

Movie Review: review question
Summary: 5 Stars

o.k., this is not a review, but an important question. Why are kubrick films always in full screen or letterbox format? his films are great, but the dvds don't do justice. full metal jacket in full screen? Spartacus in letterbox? The Shining in full screen? what is going on here? no one should buy these dvds until the studios release them in a way that gives the full benefit to the viewer -- widescreen anamorphic!

Movie Review: Spectacular, Chilling Drama
Summary: 5 Stars

A fascinating departure for Kubrick as he moved away from what could be considered as "intellectual" films, to an extreme study of isolation, loneliness, and ultimately, delusion and terror. Groundbreaking camera work only adds to the impending sense of doom. Great performance by Nicholsonas the would be author who's writers block only permits him one sentence. Try looking at an elevator the same way again.
