Movie Review: A nearly perfect realiztion of King on the screen...

Stanley Kubrick's hypnotic, awesomely paced adaptation of Stephen King's THE SHINING is the closest a film has ever come to realizing on screen the effect of King's writing on the reader. Equal parts descriptive hyperbole and eye-popping shock, never has dread been so convincingly portrayed on film as it is here by Kubrick. From the vertiginous opening through the measured scenes of domestic life at the Overlook Hotel, to the exquisitely framed sequences of horror, this adaptation works on every level. This film, along with the original VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED and THE HAUNTING, is one of the most frightening movies ever made, without resorting to the ridiculous gore of latter-day "horror" films. The DVD is beautifully mastered, and the accompanying documentary is illuminating and fascinating in its detail.Movie Review: Save your money people!!!!

First, let me say that I love this movie. It's the best horror film ever made. I can never get enough of this one man!!! See, the problem is with Warner!!!!! What the hell is wrong with you guys!!!??? You took a great masterpiece and put it on a dvd, and it doesn't really look that much better than myvhs copy.THAT'S BAD!!!! If you are gonna put a movie down on dvd, do it right. What's with all the flickering, and jittering, and dirt particles, well, u get the point. I've waited for this one tooooo long man, and now, I wish I had just stuck with my vhs tape. Isn't that what dvd is all about anyway? BETTER than a tape, extras, and just damn great. Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" is an absolute classic and is one of the best Steven King novals to be adapted and presented on the screen. I believe that it is important for the director's vision to be maintained when presenting films on DVD. The DVD is presented in it's original full screen format, the format approved by the director. It was the deliberate intention of the director to present the movie in this way. This film deserves to be digitally remastered and restored. This film should have been given a Special Edition 20th Anniversary release on DVD. Warner Bros, follow MGM's lead with the James Bond series and remaster the movies of Stanley Kubrick.Movie Review: Brilliant

This movie is my favourite movie ever, closely followed by Monty Pythons meaning of life. It is so amazingly eerie and haunting, with some truly terrifying scenes. The music adds to the haunting effect it gives. It keeps you awake for days Nicholson and Duvall are very good, with nicholson's performance being a classic of all time. Lloys is also very good for an actor of his age. (This is his only movie) I wont tell you the storyline as to wreck it for you if you have not already seen it. If you have read the book it is only loosely based on the book but believe me it does not detract from the movie.Hope this helps (rent it or buy it)

Movie Review: Kubrik Shines!

That was the first DVD I ever bought (along with the rest of Kubrik Collection), and let me tell you this is a great movie.Kubrik did not create a horror movie in the classical meaning of the word, he gave us a psychological thriller. If you are watching it for the first time, just concentrate on the story (wonderfully crafted by King). Then watch it again and again to admire the fine details, the electrifying performance of Jack Nicholson, and the wonderful vision of Kubrik.
The special feature "The Making Of The Shining" is a wonderful documentary, you can see how much work was there in the background to produce such a masterpiece.
