Movie Reviews of The September Issue

Movie Review: Vogue magazine revealed
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a very interesting look at how Vogue came up their September issue for 2007. It was fascinating to see how ideas were conceived and then executed. As with any documentary, it tends to be bit dry, but I enjoyed watching Anna Wintour interact with her colleagues and also with the world's most famous designers. I especially enjoyed watching Anna Wintour interact with Grace Coddington, the head of her creative dept. They don't let their longstanding relationship interfere with their ideas of what should go into those fabulous Vogue pages!

Besides being a fantastic editor-in-chief of the American Vogue, Anna Wintour also appears to be a wonderful mother as well. We watched as the camera followed her home and interviewed her 21-year old daughter, Bee. As much as Bee admires her famous mother, she does not want to follow in her footsteps. Good for her that she has a mind of her own! All in all, it was a fun DVD to watch with my own daughter, home from her Spring break.

Movie Review: A Must For Anyone Who Loves Fashion
Summary: 4 Stars

There is a lot to sink your bleached whites into with this double DVD offering, if you're a dyed in the wool fashionista. There are always two sides to a story and after seeing The September Issue, I am more inclined to think that the person who wears Prada isn't quite the devil she is made out to be. My hat off to Anna Wintour for baring herself (allowing very unflattering close ups, both physical and psychological) to give everyone a safely distanced glimpse into the ever grueling, sometimes ruinous world of fashion. But even bigger than this revelation is the genius of Grace Coddington who, as Vogue's star art director, is behind the issue's every bit of brilliance and magnificence, and is really the other half of this film. The relationship between her and Miss Wintour is the driving dynamic behind the astounding success of the most powerful magazine in the industry today.

Movie Review: Omniscious Wintour
Summary: 4 Stars

Anna Wintour at her best, in and out of the office, spotlight, home, and Broadway stars, and amidst all the giants of fashion's kingdom, can helm her own post as editor in chief of VOGUE. Her team of gigantic talents, Grace Coddington, Sally Singer, Virginia Smith, Andre Leon Talley, Tonne Goodman, are what make the magazine sizzle in The September issue along with the clothes. There is NOT another better represenation of the Fashion World come to light then when seen thru the lens of this director. He even speaks. But he knows the true voices of this movie belong to those who make VOGUE the fashion Bible that it is...great job.

Movie Review: The Fashion World of Beauty
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed peeking into the world of fashion. And who better would it be but Anna Wintour's world. I've always wondered what it was like behind the scenes of the editor and her many, many employees. To have a successful magazine like Vogue you have to eat, drink & sleep Vogue all the time. I enjoyed watching this film very much. I highly recommend seeing this especially if you are interested in joining the world of fashion.

Movie Review: Buy it for A.L.T.
Summary: 4 Stars

The DVD is worth it just for the deleted scenes featuring the fantastic Mr. Andre Leon Talley! "It's a famine of beauty - a famine of beauty, honey!" The man is a GENIUS!
