Movie Review: One of the best westerns ever seen.

The Searchers is still one of John Waynes finest movies. I have the Video, and have seen it many, many times over, and each time I enjoy it very much. The story takes you over a long period of time, but it is one of the most suspensefull action packed westerns that I have seen. I also felt that the other actors in the movie did an excellent job. I have seen many of the same actors in some of John Waynes movies, which were directed by John Ford, which leads me to believe, that they all worked for the same guy. I truely enjoy this movie, ever since it first came out in 1956, I believe.Movie Review: Rage and Racism on the Frontier

It is hard to explain to the uninitiated why Ford's "The Searchers" is such a great film. One of its attractions is how Wayne's character is represented as an enigmatic, imperfect hero defined by rage and racism. Ultimately, in the final scenes of the movie, the viewer is forced to confront the possibility that he is no different than the "cruel" Comanche he has been hunting throughout the movie. This is Wayne's best work, and one of the best Westerns ever made, alongside Eastwood's "Unforgiven." Masterful in all ways goes without saying. I agree with those who tought it to be "one of the best ever". (not just among westerns) This film is John Wayne's HIGH NOON.(a classic w/Gary Cooper) Seeing it is the only way,words don't do it. The "hard" edges still play to today's people and the things we confront. You will travel with "Wayne" as hate consumes him. He's NOT out to save the girl, but to destroy her. What will happen when he is face to face with her? Watch and enjoy what film making is all about. Great supporting cast. Humor is featured, also.Movie Review: best John Wayne movie ever

I grew up watching John Wayne movies with my grandpa and am a huge fan and have seen most all of them but The Searchers is the best! Wayne shows that he really is a great actor and I think his performance was oscar worthy better than True Grit. His charactor is deep and he portrays a kind of Villain good guy role you never know which until the end. The scenery is awesome and the fight scenes excellent except the river scene in which the gun shots sound strange but overall an exclellent movie that keeps you guessing with deep plots and excellent charactors. The Duke doesn't play every1s hero as he does in most of his other roles... this might be the quintessential western... the scene layout and establishing shots of John Ford... revolutionized filmmaking across the world... many "awarded" great filmmakers have pointed this film out as one of the textbooks for their success... the basic blueprint for modern filmmaking...
One you can't miss... if you haven't seen this... you don't where your favorite filmmaker came from...
