Movie Reviews of The Searchers [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: ONE OF THE BEST BLU-RAYS OUT THERE
Summary: 5 Stars

First, this was the finest performance in Wayne's career. He's darker and more bitter than any of the other role he's played before. This is also the first time John Ford and Wayne teamed up in a color film shot in Vista-vision 70mm which is brilliantly remastered to Blu-Ray. The details are so crisp and clear. Patterns in the cloth and every grove in every mountain can be seen. The story is very dark and at points disturbing to watch, but the story is just great. Jeffery Hunter does a great job in this film next to his performance of Jesus Christ in MGM's " King of Kings ". Other Ford Favorites such as Ward Bond, Harry Carey Jr.. Hank Worden as Ol'Mose Harper, also make notable apperence in this picture along side a very young Natalie Wood. This a must for any Wayne/Ford fan who wants to own a fantastic Blu-ray for their collection.

Movie Review: the silhouette of a woman
Summary: 5 Stars

The first image in The Searches is the silhouette of a woman who is standing in the cool, dark doorway of a frontier cabin and looking out into the searing heat and sun of the desert. As she stoically waits, a man rides up, wearily dismounts, and walks slowly toward her. We are in John Ford country, and all the elements are there. Pictorially, it is a scene of stark contrasts, light in conflict with dark, interior pitted against exterior, the figures sharply etched in their solitude, the implacable outlines of a harsh environment looming behind them. The people are dramatic, larger than life, and what happens to them has the force and fatality of history recorded on the screen

Movie Review: What film-making is all about
Summary: 5 Stars

I completely agree with every word Mr. Burgraff wrote in his review. I would only add how many films made today will we be still watching, still talking about, still waiting for its latest incarnation on the next greatest media platform? Not too many because they aren't many films like "The Searchers". I just want to comment on the incredible Blu-ray transfer of this film. It gives you an idea of what VistaVision was all about, what the big-screen experience is all about, and what an expert director and camerman can do with a story like "The Searchers" in a place like the Monument Valley. This is a mandatory acquisition to any serious film collection.

Movie Review: Reference disc
Summary: 5 Stars

Not my favorite John Wayne/John Ford western, but visually (at least, as far as fine detail and wide scenery goes), this is unbeatable. Fantastic level of image detail due to excellent transfer and restoration of the large Vistavision film image. One can argue with the color choices in this transfer, but as far as focus even on distant objects, this is the one to beat. After the ho-hum looking titles, you will suddenly drop your jaw when the first shot comes up and the cabin door is open to reveal the breathtaking live action in the desert. The film that will make you glad you are into watching movies in High Definition.

Movie Review: Classic, classic film!
Summary: 5 Stars

For all those people who claim that John Wayne couldn't act I defy them to explain his great performance in this classic John Ford Western. Wayne, Ford and Jeffrey Hunter were at there best during the making of this film. My father would often tell me that Jeffrey Hunter had been one of his playmates growing up. I find this all the more interesting after seeing what an excellent actor Hunter was. The blu-ray edition of this film is exquisite! The photography of this film is just beautiful and the storyline is very well played out. A very, very good classic Western. Hollywood at its best!
