Movie Reviews of The SavagesMovie Review: Not since American Beauty... Summary: 5 Stars
Not since American Beauty have I seen a film this engaging. Some excellent performances punched with very creative direction sets this movie apart. Hoffman has acted very well but the true star of the movie is Laura Linney in a performance of a lifetime.
The story is as relevant as any. I won't talk much about the story not because I don't want to tell you, I don't know how to tell you about it. The music in the film deserves a soundtrack, the sets and the locations are absolutely marvelous.
Overall, a highly highly recommended film.
Movie Review: Wonderful film Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I watched this film together and throughout the opening scenes and first part of the movie as the camera rolls through Sun City, Arizona, into the house, and even on into the hospital, everything was quite familiar. The central truths of this story - wonderfully filmed and wonderfully acted - just hit home. It's an extraordinary film with great performances and we loved it. It is absolutely true to the human experience, funny and tender and sad and hopeful, too. Loved it.
Movie Review: Funny, Smart, and Thoughtful Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely hated the final scene of the movie (it was maudlin and unbelievable, and at odds with the entire tone of the movie) but other than that minor detail, I'd highly recommend The Savages. It has a thoughtful and smart script, which portrays a dysfunctional family in crisis in a way that is real, funny, and never clichéd. Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman have never been better, and that's saying a lot. I look forward to seeing more films by Tamara Jenkins.
Movie Review: Savages Summary: 5 Stars
Great movie! After I heard about it, I rented a copy and reviewed it with a co-worker in the hopes that we can show this movie to our students next schoolyear. We teach Certified Nursing Assisting Program and its definitely a big YES!! Overall, it is a wonderful movie for any family to watch as it shows about love, care, decision making and many other elements on aging parents.
Movie Review: Hoffman and Linney at their best! Summary: 5 Stars
Laura Linney well deserved the Oscar nomination she got for this film.
And Philip Seymour Hoffman, as usual, delivers a character subtly different from every other role I've seen him in.
Hoffman is one of the most amazing actors gracing our screen these days! Total confident living in the present moment, emotional openness without a hint of bathos.
