Movie Reviews of The Rescuers

Movie Review: And The Singer Was Shelby Flint
Summary: 5 Stars

I agree with others that this underrated and ignored-by-the-studio effort was the last great Disney animated film for a long, long time. Among other excellent elements are the songs--and has anyone mentioned the marvelous singing of Shelby Flint? Her behind-the-credits rendition of "The Journey" sets up the story and makes for one of the most haunting openings of any Disney film, and of course, she helped propel "Someone's Waiting For You" to an Oscar nomination. Predictably, there is no CD (unlike the forgettable Rescuers Down Under) and unless you are already a "star," you don't get much billing at Disney. Apparently destined to be the Marni Nixon of animation, Shelby Flint also sang in Snoopy Come Home (again, no CD) and some others. Joni Mitchell has admitted imitating her at the start of her career, but apparently lacking Mitchell's chutzpa, Flint's name must be dug out of the small credits. She, and the songs, help make this film exceptional.

Movie Review: The best Disney film since Lady and the Tramp!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think this is an excellent film that is very forgotten and gets lost easily in Disney history. It tells the story of two rodents, Bernard and Miss Bianca, from the Rescue Aid Society in a great journey to rescue a little young orphan girl that has fallen victim of Madame Medusa. Mr. Snoops, Brutus and Nero will join Madame Medusa in her sinister plans to get the Devil's Eye, the world's largest diamond. Together with Ellie Mae, evinrude and of the other swamp folks, the rescuers will triumph in saving Penny and getting her adopted. The Rescuers also features heart warming and unforgetable songs, "The Journey", "Rescue Aid Society", "Tomorrow is Another Day" and the Award Winning song "Someone's Waiting for You". The Rescuers is high-flying fun you'll want to watch over and over again.

Also, check out its sequel, The Rescuers Down Under.

Movie Review: The Rescuers
Summary: 5 Stars

I love Disney movies. Whether they are live action or animated, I've watched Disney movies since I was a kid. I first saw" The Rescuers" when it came out on VHS(i wasn't able to make to the movie theater) and I really felt for Penny(the girl in the movie). I've always wanted to be able to talk to and understand animals and every time I see a Disney movie with humans and animals interacting, I wish it even more. Anyway, this movie about a little orphan girl who makes it to freedom with the help of her animal friends is really great and heart warming and whether you've never seen it or if you saw it when you were a kid, you should rent or buy it and watch it again. These types of movie never get old. Be sure to watch "The Rescuers Down Under" too.

Movie Review: Don't buy this edition, wait for the new one!
Summary: 5 Stars

Disney has released certain evidence that a new "Masterpiece Edition" of this timeless classic should be expected somewhere in 2007, whether it is a single or 2-disc edition is not known yet, but being a "Masterpiece Edition" in the likes of the 2004 Alice in Wonderland DVD re-release, it's quite possible that The Rescuers will too see a two disc set! I'm so excited, I can't wait, it was well about time. Like I said, don't waste your money on this poor standard edition, the print looks horrible, the colors are dark, murky and unbalanced, nothing like they are supposed to look like and the sound is nothing extravagant. 2007!

Movie Review: A Disney Favorite...
Summary: 5 Stars

This Disney classic doesn't involve a princess. Instead it's about a lonely, plain little girl who ranaway from the orphanage and then was kidnapped by two sinister shysters. Penny, the orphange, is a small-boned child, thus the two scheming thieves want to use her to retrieve an enormous diamond from a narrow hole that floods often down in Devil's Bayou, a southern swamp. Penny sends a message in a bottle for help, which is discovered by The Rescuers, a mouse army that helps those in need. A lovely little tale about hope and courage, quite comical as well. A different spin for Disney.
