Movie Reviews of The RescuersMovie Review: Great! Summary: 5 Stars
This was the last Disney classic of the first period of greatness for the Walt Disney Company. 12 years of poor quality films followed until The Little Mermaid arrived with the freshness, charm and appeal of The Rescuers.
One of the finest rodent adventures ever created takes the two star mice, Bernard and Miss Bianca into the gloomy Devil's Bayou answering an embottled plea for help from a little girl named Penny. Taken away from the orphanage by the wicked Madame Medusa, Penny slaves day and night inside a horrifying underground cavern, where she's forced to dig and find the Devil's Eye diamond for Madame Medusa and Mr. Snoops. After many failed attempts at running away and being caught by the aligators, Brutus and Nero, Bernard and Bianca arrived at the mysterious world of the bayou to help out. There, with Evinrude as transportation and messenger, the two brave mice will gather a team of friendly critters to save the day and come up with a successful plan to scape from the old riverboat in Devil's Bayou and bring the girl safely home to New York.
A huge success in time of original release, the film was the first of the Disney animated classics to be cursed with a casher-in sequel, Rescuers "Down under" which successfully failed at even making a decent profit or becoming half as good as its precedetor, decent animation and somewhat good vocal talent didn't call for convincing original story or memorable characters.
A better DVD edition would be welcome!
Movie Review: I loved it! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of Disney's greatest movies it is a shame that it isn't as popular now adays as it once was when it first came out, it really is a Disney Classic and deserves more than boring films like Aladdin or 101 Dalmatians. it is the story of Bernard and Miss Bianca, two little mice in a mission to rescue Penny, a little girl from the evil Madame Medusa, who wants to use Penny to retrieve the world's largest diamond. The plot is simple, easy to understand and the animation is old times Disney at it's best, way better than the newer Disney films like "The Emperor's New Groove" or Hercules, I mean what kind of garbage is this? Anyways, back to The Rescuers, Disney has released this title in a way in which they show no care for it, as if they just felt they needed to release it. The DVd has very little extras, most of them have nothing to do with the film. I really do hope that Disney gives light to this memorable classic once again so a whole new generation of children can enjoy it as much as I did when I was little, and as much as I treasure it now. There are rumors saying that Disney is planning on making "The Rescuers III: Journey to the Black Castle" in which our two little heroes will rescue an Norweian poet from a dark and sinister castle where the poor man has been inprisoned for years. This was Margery Sharp's original novel and a book I have read and enjoyed just as much as the Disney film.
Movie Review: Nero!!...Brutus!!....Stop that making that noise in there!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Rescuers is one of my all-time favorite Disney films to watch. I saw this movie when I was 6 years old and now that I'm 21, I still love this movie. The story begins when a little girl named Penny is kidnapped by a evil woman named Madame Medusa who forces Penny to search and find a large diamond called the Devil's Eye, thats hidden in a underground cove called Devils Bayou. Penny, however, manages to send messages in bottles to get help from the outside, and the R.A.S. Rescue Aid Society, the secret organization that's composed of mice from around the world answer Penny's call for help and they send two mice Bernard, who's the janitor, and a agent from Hungray named Miss Bianca. The only way to get to Devil's Bayou is the Albatross Air Service that's ran by Orville, a bumbling, wise-cracking albatross who's the pilot, flight annoucer, and the plane. When they do get to Devil's Bayou, Bernard and Bianca witness a escape attempt made by Penny, who get snatched by Medusa's two bumbling pet alligators, Nero and Brutus. My favorite scene is where Nero and Brutus are trying to catch Bernard and Bianca when they're trapped in a pipe organ, and while Nero is playing the organ, Brutus trys to catch them when the air comes up through the pipes. If you want a good family classic to watch, give The Rescuers a try, I love it.
Movie Review: Charming classic... Summary: 5 Stars
I remember this movie from my childhood. I remember seeing in theaters when it was first released back in 1977 and I remember it being a huge hit. Now I'd like to purchase it on DVD but I kind of hesitate to, because I haven't heard many good things about the quality of this DVD issue, not the film, the DVD.
After seeing some screenshots online I am shocked to find the film deteriorating far beyond it's original brilliance, I remember it being sharp, bright and colorful. After having seen Robin Hood four years before, the animation used in The Rescuers looked so refreshing and lively and above all, well-done. However, it seems that lines have thickened, colors have faded and the entire print has become subject of artifacts and scratches. Shameful. It seems so unfair that up to this day, films that are even less than [...]are getting massive restoration undergoings while other, older movies are left to rot to this kind of state. Disney, is it so much to ask that you should treat all your timeless classics equaly? They all deserve it. Yes, all, even The Black Cauldron, Oliver & Company or One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
Well, that's all I'd like to say for this film. I will not have to think twice about purchasing it as soon as the DVD release is what it trully should be.
Movie Review: Cool film! Summary: 5 Stars
Although this film doesn't particularly follow the same story line as the forgotten Margery Sharp classic, I have to admit that the film is better in it's own way. To start, in the book, the rescuers, janitor Bernard, Lady Miss Bianca and sailor mouse Nils go into the Black Castle to rescue a Norweian poet, but this is just some no-one who you really don't get to know that well, since he comes at the end of the book and barely even speaks, you can't feel for the character, however, Penny is filled with charming personality, and you learn to love her as you watch the film. Nils was a very charming little mouse in the book, too bad he wasn't in Disney's film. Then Madame Medusa is a great villain compared to the boring jailers and gate keepers in the book, since they do nothing to stop the young poet from scaping. In Disney's film, Madame Medusa has held Panny captive for months because she needs her to find the world's largest diamond, and the rescuers are flying into a journey to her rescue. Lovable film, pretty disappointing DVD, hopefully Disney will give us another, better edition. There unconfirmed rumors that a new sequel, The Rescuers III: Journey to the Black Castle is in the works, and this time, little cute Nils would be joining us, I would loooove to see that!
