Movie Reviews of The Punisher

Movie Review: "Here is justice, here is punishment, here in me"
Summary: 4 Stars

I honestly don't get all the bashing this 1989 adaption of the comic has gotten. Since Marvel found a new money source with the big screen adaptions of X-Men, Spider-Man, and Daredevil (not to mention the upcoming X-Men 2 and The Hulk), it's obvious this film will look far inferior to those, but I like this for what it is. True, The Punisher isn't the best comic to film adaption in history (but it's far from the worst), but let's be honest; when the original comic had first started, it wasn't all that great, and those mid-late nineties relaunches weren't anything to write home about either (although the more recent Punisher books have been phenominal), and let's not forget this is one of the last one man army kill everything 80's films among the lines of Commando and Missing in Action, and I like it for what it is and isn't. For the most part this film stays true to the roots of the comic, unlike other comic to film adaptions like Batman & Robin and Spawn. Dolph Lundgren isn't the best actor in the world, but his stoic expressionless face and badass overall look suit the character of Frank Castle very well. So there's no skull, no van full of weapons, so what? Despite all that, The Punisher is still a good comic to film movie worth watching. And yes, I have heard of an upcoming new Punisher movie, but something tells me Marvel should quit while they're ahead before one of they're films tanks mightily.

Movie Review: Reevaluation of my earlier review.
Summary: 4 Stars

My review was putting it frank was bad so I have decided to rereview it again.

Dolph Lundgren stars as a persumed dead policeman turned vigilante known as "The Punisher" who kills every low-life he feels deserves to be punished only to give the mob a break when the Yakuza decides to muscle in on the mob kidnapping the mobster's kids in the process. Louis Gosset Jr. plays the ex-partner who believes his partner is really alive and is "The Punisher" meanwhile bulllets fly and people die.

Dolph Lundgren thankfully only says 5 words in the entire flick speaking chores are handled by Louis Gosset Jr. and Jeroen Krabbe who steals the show as the villian. However Dolph gets to display his true talents when he fights and shoots. Dolph also plays the part of "The Punisher" pretty well wether being tortured by nasty yakuza guards, getting his tail kicked by a female ninja or shooting 300 ninjas with an M.16 Dolph keeps the flick going at a relentless pace making the movie an actionpacked fun movie. Although people hate this it's more for the principal of the skull on the shirt, nost can't rise above it but I liked it and even though this is a B.movie it delivers the goods. Action movie fans can do worse. Overall I like Dolph but I also enjoy other great movies from Van Damme and Stallone AND "The Punisher" has a soft spot in my heart. And I am proud to say that I recommend this.

Movie Review: The punisher wanted for over 125 murders.
Summary: 4 Stars

This movie is great family movie; I recommend it to ages 4-10. It is such a good childrens movie thing I think Disney should buy the rights of this movie and make a sequel. Not!
Let me restart this recommendation. Children beware, whenever you see this movie for sale you are in the wrong part of the store. I say this for one reason and that is it is the most violent movie out there. Its got everything blood, nudity, bad language, action not suitable for kids, and a lot of killing. But that doesnt mean that it isn't the most perfect action movie ever made, it is the perfect action movie ever made. I was shocked when I found this DVD in the 5-dollar DVD pile at Wall Mart. I have to admit I wasnt going to get it until I noticed the words based on characters from MARVEL comics and chaching Wall Mart had made another 5 bucks. This movie is awesome, this Punisher guy is an ex MARINE and COP who fell into the line of revenge. His motto is If your guilty your dead! And he means only that. Nothing can stop him if you are guilty he will kill you, and to prove that he faces the Mafia and Japanese Mafia alone. So I hope you enjoy this most excellent of a special movie THE PUNISHER!

Movie Review: Not Bad
Summary: 4 Stars

Not bad considering that Marvel Comics Company did not lend a hand with this film. They did the best with what they had. I think Dolph Lundgren did a great Job portaying the Punisher and in my opinion he should have played the Punisher in the new Punisher Movie instead of Thomas Jane, don't get me wrong Thomas did a good job playing the role of the Punisher, he just did not look enough like the Punisher, Dolph resmbles the punisher a great deal and played the role almost to perfection. But this version of the punisher does have it's faults like for example Dolph's version of the Punisher does not display the Trade Mark Skull on his shirt, and the movie took place in australia instead of New York. But overall the Movie was pretty good considering the lack of help from Marvel. Louis Gossett Jr. also played a good part in this movie, The new Punisher is a little more accurate than this version, but this movie is still a must get and see.

Movie Review: Do you like action movies with Arnie from the 80s ? OK
Summary: 4 Stars

The only star not given is for the sound quality and the ONE deleted scene on this DVD version (the danish VHS was uncut !).
In all the other ways this is a good example for a comic book movie and was even more action-packed than the books at the time the movie was done ! Dolph Lundgren seems to have not the audience Arnie had at this time with action flicks but he's also like Arnie in Terminator 1 the good choice for the character of Frank Castle (The Punisher). Why ? The one-liners are also kind of dumb (and good at the same time) and Lundgren provides good Karate/KungFu-action scenes.
Fans of the books should have this one....whil waiting on the new movie expected to be written by comic-author Garth Ennis !
