Movie Reviews of The PunisherMovie Review: Could have been better. Summary: 3 Stars As a comic book fan for many years, I had anticipated the release of this movie on DVD. I had originally seen this movie several years prior on VHS but it was a shoddy copy. This time around it was presented in a better format.
The original story goes that the Punisher (aka Frank Castle) is a death-dealing vigilante who extracts more than enough vengeance for the murders of his family (wife, son and daughter) by the mob. Frank survives the hit, goes underground and reemerges as the Punisher.
This movie was a decent rendition of the Punisher story but, like a lot of other movies, did not hold up to the original storyline. Here, Frank sees his family get blown up in the family car that is at the family home as opposed to a mob hit in Central Park. Also, The Punisher is widely known as wearing dark colored shirts with a white skeletal image on it. In the movie, the only times you see the skeletal image is on his knives, which he uses quite effectively.
Overall, the movie plot was not too bad but could have been better written. Dolph Lundgren does a fair job as Frank although his dialogues seemed quite dumb. His physique was the one thing of Dolph that I believe fit well for the character of Frank Castle. The scenes were also pretty well done but seemed a bit choppy at times.
For anyone who is a fan of the Punisher, I do recommend the movie but the new 2004 one with Thomas Jane is a better one although they do still change the storyline in that one too.
Movie Review: See this instead of the new one Summary: 5 StarsThe new Punisher flick is an abomination. The kids next door reminded me of the scooby doo gang. That wasn't what the punisher was all about. The punisher is all about punishing the guilty. Am I right?! This movie presented a more accurate portrayal of the Frank Castle than the new one could have ever hoped. Hats off to Dulf Lundgren. Guns, money, killin......this movie has it all.
Movie Review: Fun Movie...And Drinking Game!?!? Summary: 4 StarsI agree the film is fun, in a mindless sort of way. It is as good as the 2004 movie. What I remember, that hasn't been posted on here is the the amaturish framing of shots. Watch where people are standing, or when an objest like a chair is moved. You can see the marks, literally white x spots, where people are supposed to stand or objects are supposed to be placed. I was waiting for an anvil to fall on one chicks head, Wily Coyote style. And you won't see this only once or twice, it is throughout the movie. Take a drink everytime you see one and you will be stone cold drunk before it's over. Enjoy!!!
Movie Review: both punisher movies are fun Summary: 5 StarsThis Punisher flick is one of my favorites. Some folks like to nit pick this one because it's a product of it's time but that's what makes it different from the more recent (and also entertaining) version and I like both versions. It's true that he doesn't wear a skull but the newer version makes changes in the story too (his family doesn't get killed in Central Park) and there are people who complain about that and other changes too. Both movie versions are slightly different from the comic and yet both are largely faithful. Most importantly: both are fun! I've got both Punisher DVDs and I'm glad I do. They are both entertaining in their own way. The more Punisher the better!
Movie Review: Has "The Punisher Feel" but weres "The Punisher" Summary: 2 Stars This movie was the thing that attracted me to the comics at the age of 7. Yet now today I realize that it really was disapointing. The film yes in a way had faith to the comic, but were was the Punisher. You cannot expect to put Lundgren in a film and get away with it on top of that trying to sneek passed the iconic skull emblum on the shirt. First I dont like martial art films, and this movie had revolving around a Japanesse mob, so thats not a another goodie. So yeah a good thanks to Jon Hensleigh for makin the new one.
