Movie Reviews of The ProwlerMovie Review: Amazingly good. Summary: 5 Stars
This 80's slasher flick is definitely worth checking out especially if you're a slasher fan or like Tom Savini's gory special fx, The prowler is a great example of a slasher flick with the slow pace so it could build up the tension and suspense and it has alot of gruesome death scenes in it so it is not dull as another reviewer said he must have been watching something else.
I can't pick a favorite death scene but I would have to say when the killer stabs one of the students on top of the head with a large knife and having his eyes roll back, very nice and it looked gory as hell. In 1945 during a college graduation dance a young woman and her lover are violently murdered by an unknown killer, 35 years later the killer comes back to the campus to murder off unsuspecting students when they try to throw another dance.
A blond girl teams up with the local sheriff in order to catch the killer you also have some typical 80's teens getting drunk and partying as they get picked off one by one. I highly recommend this film to slasher/horror fans enjoy.
Movie Review: Savini at his best, Easily one of the top 10 Slashers of all time Summary: 5 Stars
"The Prowler" is another of my favorite slasher films.
I didn't see it at the theatre because I didn't like the name,"I had he pleasure of seeing most 80's slashers during their first run in theatres, I wish I would have seen it on the big screen. The story is the usual slasher fare, years earlier something traumatic happened and left someone either bitter, scarred, disfigured or just mad as hell.
In my opinion the love of the genre comes from knowing the formula of the film just different characters,kills,herione/hero and killer, and this movie delivers what you expect from a slasher plus good acting and good kills plus excellent effects by the great Tom Savini. "The Prowler" is easily in my top 5 Slashers of all time.Get the DVD while you can. It could become as hard to find or as expensive as "The Burning"
Movie Review: Not just your typical 80s Slasher Summary: 5 Stars
The Prowler has become one my favorite films. There is some bashing of this one, but I really don't get it. I love everything about this movie. The storyline, how the killer looks, the weaponry of his choice. It was like nothing I'd seen before. Also, a great showcase of the incredible talents of legendary FX artist Tom Savini. Contrary to popular belief, There is an explanation for the killings, like most slashers have some vague motive... the Prowler's motive was to get revenge on Rosemary for leaving him. Simple as that. I really dont think that many people who watch horror films religiously worry about plot and details too much anyways. The film definetly delivers in the violence department. If you're looking for a different kind of slasher, go ahead and pick this up. I think Prowler and Frank Zito could have been best friends.
Movie Review: Great 80's Horror Gore Fest Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far one of the best 80's horror films. One thing that really took me by surprise was the level of intensity that each of the killings goes to. These are some pretty hardcore deaths. I won't spoil any of them by giving you details, but just know that you will be shocked by what you see. I am a true horror movie freak, my film collection would make most video rental stores look extremely weak. Having said that, the ending in this movie was truly a surprise to me. I was actually surprised by the twist at the end which revealed the killer. Great movie with great kill scenes!
Movie Review: Savini is the man Summary: 5 Stars
In my top 5 slashers of all time. Tom Savini is just a genius when it comes to special effects, plain and simple. The special effects are not the only thing this movie has going for it though, the story is great, the direction is great, the acting is above average and its just an all around great movie. Some of the gore includes a knife through the top of the head and out the bottom,an exploding head,a pitchfork double-death(I love double-deaths), and there's a lot more where that came from. Highly recommended, underrated, over-looked slasher from the golden age of extreme horror.
