My family has enjoyed this movie for years and I was excited to get it on dvd in the anniversary edition. The interviews and anecdotes from the stars are great fun and of course the movie itself will never grow old. A truly classic story. So "have fun storming the castle" and get this movie. This film SHOULD be the "Wizard of Oz" of our time. It is a national treasure, and should be treated as such. Always shown once a year at the same time, families gathering around the television at the same time with popcorn all around, young ones sitting on their parents laps.
But it won't happen. VCRs and DVDs have ended those wonderful times. I can remember impatiently waiting for the 'Charlie Brown' holiday broadcast, Santa Claus is coming to town, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, etc, where you HAD to be there and tune in or you missed it for a whole year.
Video did not only kill the radio star, it killed the annual family viewing of classics.

The Princess Bride (1987) - Rob Reiner
What a joyous, fun movie this is. Rob Reiner, combined with William Goldman's screenplay, does an amazing job of creating a fairy tale that attempts to subvert all fairy tales. Yet, and here's the amazing part, it is still somehow able to maintain the magic and romance that is inherent in any great fantasy storytelling. Thus, though it attempts to make fun of fairy tales in general, it is as amazing as the greatest of them! Honestly, how can anyone NOT like this movie? There is so much innocent fun and charm that one almost immediately falls in love with it. The dialogue is fantastic, the acting is enthusiastic, the action is fun, and even the romance works. What are you waiting for? Go buy this movie!
Movie Review: Good movie for the family

I got this for the grandkids, but all three generations watched it, and we all enjoyed it. It's a good fantasy movie, without vulgarity. My family watches movies for pleasure, not to criticize, and it is an excellent video.
