Movie Reviews of The Prince of EgyptMovie Review: The Prince of Egypt was incredible Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this film for religion class last year in the theater. I went in just thinking it would be too 'cartoony', but when I walked out, I was amazed. I couldn't stop thinking about what I had just seen. The film depicts the epic story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. The story does stray from the biblical story in the fact that in Exodus, Aaron does talking for Moses and things like that. But it doesn't matter. The animation is absolutely incredible, and the way the story is told is excellent. The music is the kind that will stay in your head, but in a good way. I haven't gotten sick of listening to it, and I even play Hans Zimmer's musical score over in my head. I have watched this DVD at least once a week and each time it makes me see how much God really cares about the people he created. This movie is very moving, and it does contain many scenes that are very tragic and sad. One thing I strongly emphasize is the fact that this is NOT a film only for children. It has a PG rating and it deserves it. But people should NOT look at this film as 'Disney' or 'just another cartoon'. When I was watching it for the fist time I noticed that it carried on like that of live action films, and I soon forgot that it was animated. The DVD of this is absolutely great. I baught it and I was very pleased to have its Widescreen format, and a number of great extras. I am glad that it contains the film's trailers and a full length documentary. Seriously, if you are religious and open minded you will want to rent or buy this epic film. Better yet, if you don't have any interest in God, watch this and if you see the value of it. This is one great film that will forever withstand the test of time.
Movie Review: Mazel Tov, Katzenberg! Summary: 5 Stars
How exactly do you translate the story of Exodus...the story of freedom...into an Animated film...? How did they do it? Rarely have I felt tears at the BEGINNING of a movie...when Y'sheved(Moses' Mother) started to sing her lullaby IN HEBREW, I almost started crying. Since I always prefer animated films to the "real thing", I felt "finally, a perfect film..." Being Jewish and seeing this movie during the month of Pesach(Passover) was literally a religious experience. I was touched. Seeing the people sing Mi'Chamocha as the left Egypt pulled tears from my heart. I was so happy to see the way the film was executed. Don't get me wrong, this is a film for all peoples. But it seems to almost be aimed at the Jewish Community. And I think this movie is better than ANY live action film to date. I could literally hear the Words from the Torah in my mind as I watched. The music was too incredible to describe, the voices a special treat, especially Jeff Goldblum as Aaron. This movie may not be historically acccurate, but it is a well rounded account that has achieved an incredible thing. The Hebrew singing was too much for me, again, I wanted to cry because it was so amazing to see it on the screen, and feel like you are there. L'Chiam, Katzenberg, Dreamworks SKG. Thank you for adding something to the list with The Ten Commandments and Schindler's List and La Vita E Bella (Life is Beautiful). If you have to buy any movie for you or your children, please buy this one. It may be a little violent, but the sheer fact that Dreamworks is not afraid to show what it might have been like is something to applaud. The movie is a masterpiece. Watch it, it is a NEW experience...
Movie Review: The Best Animated Film of All Time! Summary: 5 Stars
Without a doubt, "The Prince of Egypt" is my all-time favorite movie. I absolutely love it. I can watch it over and over again, and I don't think I'd ever get tired of it. The animation is superior, the acting is stunning, and the music is powerful.
I've seen the story of Moses portrayed in several films, but this version has to be the very best of them all. Moses, as everybody knows, is born into a family of Hebrew slaves in ancient Egypt. The pharaoh fears that the Hebrews will become too numerous and rebel against the Egyptians, and so he sends out his soldiers to slaughter every male infant born to the Hebrews. Moses' mother, Yocheved, takes her young son and flees to the Nile River, where she sends him adrift in a special basket. The basket floats all the way to the royal palace, where the pharaoh's wife finds it. She has compassion on Moses when she sees him, and she takes him in and raises him as her own. She already has one son, Rameses, who becomes Moses' big brother. Years later, Moses and Rameses are all grown up, and getting along like very good friends. Moses is perfectly happy living a life of luxury, but then he learns the terrible truth about his childhood, and soon everything is changed forever.
Anyone who is not affected by this movie would have to have a heart of stone. This movie is just so beautiful. And the story it teaches is simply priceless. I recommend this movie to anybody, whether or not they attend Sunday school regularly. Even those who don't believe in Moses, or even in God, may find this movie appealing.
I hope this movie wins a million awards.
Movie Review: Let my people buy this movie! Summary: 5 Stars
For those of you who saw this film and didn't like it, I advise you to STOP reading! Here why: "The Prince of Egypt" is a wonderful film that takes the biblical story of Exodus and turns it into an entertaining, special-effect packed children's film no live-action movie could ever tell...and I'm not saying that just because I'm related to one of the animators. (Yeah, you heard me.)This film works out pretty well for a young audience, but not too young. Some scences, like the Plagues, may scare them. And the DVD features only make the film better. Here's a breakdown: * Audio Commentary with Directors: Perfect if you've seen the movie before, like me. The directors, all three of them, do voice-overs throughout the entire film, talking about how certain scenes were made, the steps they took to make them, etc.) *The Making of: A little featurette. *"When You Believe" Multi-Language Presentation: The "When You Believe" sequence in multiple languages to show how they made the songs perfectly in-sync no matter how many languages it had to be translated to. *"Chariot Race" Basics of Animation: The process used in making the "Chariot Race" scene. *Focus on Technical Effects: A look at the special effects in the film. *Theatrical Trailers, Cast & Filmmaker Bios, Production Notes: No explanation here. *Special Sneak Preview: Special trailer for "Road to El Dorado" and "Chicken Run". I hope this clears up a few things about the film and I hope you and you family enjoy this movie for years to come.
Movie Review: A great movie, great DVD, and a denifite Buy. Summary: 5 Stars
Reading through many of the reviews on this movie, I think that people go away from the fact that this is just a movie. Dreamworks did not make this movie to inform the world of Christianity or Judism. I find it funny that people can get offended over a cartoon. Anyways, about the movie. I personally think that this is the best DVD that I currently own. The picture quality, sound, and special features are in a league of their own. Not to mention that the movie itself is just plain awesome. Dreamworks has managed to integrate 2d and 3d animation with conventional animation almost flawlessly. This made a great movie become awe inspiring. Personally, I think the neatest thing is that the Dreamworks staff tried to preserve the integrity of the story. The DVD has a making of segment that really explains the trouble and research that the staff had done to keep this story accurate. Finally, the music is just plain fantastic. Hans Zimmers score and Stephen Schwartz's original songs make this movie a definite emotional ride. The music could tell the story, without having the film attached. Please, please see this movie and judge it fairly. Don't look at this movie as an educational film on the bible. Look at it as an hour and 40 minute piece of art
