Movie Reviews of The Prestige [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Really good movie, still a few tricks up their sleeves
Summary: 5 Stars

Christopher Nolan approached this movie much like batman begins, with even a very similar cast as Batman (Michael Caine and Christian Bale). With dark/downtrodden sets, many camera angles, and a whole lot of action, this movie keeps you in suspense. With a pseudo-historical basis, this movie is set in old london, where 2 young magicians lives start off as friends, but by a "Knot it time" they are split apart and apposed to each other until the end. It is a very original movie, I have not seen anyting based around a subject like this before, or at least recently. Check this movie out if you like films like Batman Begins, American Psycho, The Machienist, ect...all of which starred Christian Bale. Again, casting was excellent in this film with Bale, Jackman, Caine, Johansen, Hall, and Perabo. Also the very improtant spot of Nikola Tesla was filled by DAVID BOWIE, which was a great role for him, and his dark, proper, and mysterious character. Check this movie out, well worth the price of admission.

Movie Review: An awesome ride, but don't look too closely
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those movies where you simply need to turn off your brain and enjoy the ride. Enjoy the magnificient acting, the superb cinematography, the pacing, the soundtrack and do your absolute best to ignore the plot holes, because there's loads of them. In all aspects save for plotting, this movie is a brooding work of art.

Depends on your cerebral make-up, I guess, whether or not you are able to engage the "Suspension of Disbelief" button and ignore the obvious errors in the plot. If you are a right-brained plot fetishist, this is probably not the movie for you. But if you enjoyed Chris Nolan's previous works - Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins - odds are, you'll enjoy this one too.

I had the chance to compare the normal DVD vs the Blu-Ray release and...well, if you are looking for a movie to show off your HD system, look no further. Batman Begins on HD-DVD was a great transfer, but I feel The Prestige eclipses it.

Movie Review: One of my favorite movies and a pleasure to re-watch on Blu-ray.
Summary: 5 Stars

I won't spend too much time reviewing the movie, though I will say, I absolutely love this film. Christopher Nolan is establishing himself as one of the brightest young directors today. And likewise, Christian Bale turns in another masterful performance, as he continues to rise to well-deserved heights. And Hugh Jackman gives a great performance as a man gripped by obsession.

The Blu-ray disc provides a stunning visual and audio experience. This is one of the best-quality transfers I've seen in any High-Def disc. Extras are at a minimal, just a short 6-part documentary which is ported from the regular DVD edition. Thankfully this documentary is a nice 1080p transfer and a pleasure to watch.

Though the disc is a bit lacking in extras, it still deserves a solid 5 rating, as the movie itself is captivating and most importantly, very rewatchable. It takes on new dimensions with each viewing.

Movie Review: Are You Reading Closely?
Summary: 5 Stars

The Prestige is a wonderful example of how cinema is supposed to be made. Academy nominaded for Cinamatography is a true tribute to the tone of the film. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale bounce off each other great and Michael Caine in the middle makes it work even better. The film really shines in its directorial vision of Christopher Nolan. Some of you might know him best from "Batman Begins" but he has done great films like "Memento" and "Insomnia". He has worked with the best in the buisness and his career is just begining. Though I can't leave out his brother Jonathan Nolan who co-wrote both "Batman Begins", "Memento" and of course "The Prestige" It is a definite buy for an audience who enjoys films. I can't say much more about the film that would give away any spoilers so I leave you with many reasons to see the film. Good luck and I hope you enjoy this thriller/mystery/drama.

Movie Review: One of the best movies of 2006
Summary: 5 Stars

I read quite a few other reviews, and from what I could gather is the people that had a problem with this movie are those who do not like to think at a movie and let the movie do the thinking for them. Don't get me wrong, that is all well and good. A lot of people either like this movie or The Illusionist better, and, no offense to these people, are not deep thinking people, at least to the ones that I know. (And most of them admit to being so). This movie is a great mystery movie, and I recommend it to anybody who likes mystery movies.

When I first saw this movie in the theater I did not feel lost at all, but felt more enlightened to the story as it went by. The movie has good twists all the way through it, and the overall theme is great: obsession will eventually consume you.
