Movie Reviews of The PointMovie Review: We miss you, Harry! Summary: 5 Stars
Fans of Harry Nilsson (and Ringo too) will enjoy this version of Oblio's adventures in the Pointless Forest. Nostalgic adults can marvel at the trippy dialogue and animation, although a certain one-star reviewer here seems to have taken his grown-up pills to grouse about such things. Very young kids will love Oblio and his dog Arrow, especially as they confront the bigger world and its complexities. The music, of course, is sing-along for the whole family, and the DVD could have been a complete package with the addition of Nilsson's original soundtrack. Still a treat, though. A few extras to this barebones presentation -- session pictures, a bio, notes from Ringo, a remixed soundtrack -- would surely make some Nilsson converts. As it is, a cute memento of the trippy Seventies.
Movie Review: Pointedly Pro Summary: 5 Stars
As a child, I grew up with this movie. I still have an old VHS copy, although the first viewing I can remember came on Public Broadcasting. Harry Nilsson's "The Point" frequently takes me back to my younger years, sitting with my mother on the couch and loving the tale of Oblio and Arrow seeking true meaning in a world in which they have become outcasts.
While the animation pales into comparison to today's slick digital tomes, I almost prefer the point because you can see the artistic vision coming through in all of its watercolor beauty. Some of the images also are a bit dated, but the impact is not lost.
For anyone who claims to be a fan of Nilsson's, this is a must have. For anyone who enjoys a simple, modern fairy tale, this is a good buy.
Movie Review: A Stoner Film for those over 40 Summary: 5 Stars
If you watched this in the 1970s, buy it and re-live your jaded youth... I watched this film my freshman year of college, 1972, with my stoner friends who are now upstanding contributing members of society and in 2004, I'm watching it with my 87 year old mother today. Amazing... it's true when "they" say "they" don't make them like this any more. Reminiscent of Yellow Submarine in color and sound. Marvelous movie. Buy it for the next generation. It's not just about the Point, it's about Ringo Starr, Harry N. and more. It's the anti-thesis of modern cartoons with big eyes and stupid faces and no plot. Maybe having this movie out again will make people create better cartoons -- maybe they'll try to live up to this standard.
Movie Review: This has to be one of the greatest - ever. Summary: 5 Stars
Ah, little Oblio. Life is pretty tough when you don't have a point in the land where everything has a point. Join Oblio and his dog Arrow on the adventure of a lifetime - and enjoy the innovative animation and stellar soundtrack along the way. This is arguably Nilsson's finest.
This story is a classic that will warm your hearts and put a smile on your face. You'll likely want to name a pet after one of these characters before it's all over. (My parents were fans of this movie too, and I grew up with Arrow the miniature poodle as a result!)
Highly recommended for all ages. The story is all grown up, but the delivery transcends time and will enlighten generations to come.
Movie Review: Hey This a Fun Family movie Summary: 5 Stars
Well if you are looking for a wonderful children's video look no further than The Point. An excellent animated tale about a boy named oblio, who is very unique and fun with no pointed head in the land of point with his dog arrow have adventures. When oblio gets banished to pointless forest for not being born with any point on his head and goes on a journey of discovery, quite fun for a family with young kids to watch. My only wish would to have all Narrators from all broadcasts of The Point on the next reissue of this film to included Dustin Hoffman, Alan Barzman, Alan Thicke and Harry Nilsson. Plus Ringo Starr too that would be treat. Oh the music is excellent also.
Highly Recommended Title.
