Movie Reviews of The Pit WorkoutMovie Review: Good workout... Summary: 5 Stars
Everybody else has broken down the video's content, so I'll just offer my opinion. I've had the DVD for a few years now, and do it about 2x a week. Once for the lower body, once for the upper body. I do practice MMA, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai, and find the video is good conditioning for these sports. It's by no means an instructional video for MMA, but does provide an opportunity to practice your striking in a limited degree. Overall, I find it a good conditioning video...not necessarily going to make you much stronger, but it is a good mix between cardio and strength. I would honestly give it about 4 1/2 stars. If you're in to MMA, kickboxing, etc, it is a pretty decent conditioning video that will give you an opportunity to practice your technique a bit too. If you're not, it's still a good workout.
Movie Review: A Great Measure Of Fitness Summary: 5 Stars
I compete in boxing, Muay Thai, and most recently mixed martial arts. When trying to add muscle and strength, a fighter must always be cautious not to sacrifice conditioning or flexibility for power. This, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to put on conditioned and functional muscle. I really didn't anticipate this workout to be as dificult as it was, but I have had great results in a very short period of time.
Some people might find this workout a little more primitive than your modern fitness program, but old tricks are usually the best tricks. I would definitely recommend this dvd to anyone who is seriously considering combat sports. This program is definitely NOT for the faint of heart; it's a serious and strenuous workout that will [...], regardless of your fitness level.
Movie Review: Great No-Frills Workout! Summary: 5 Stars
The Pit Workout DVD consists of three hour-long workouts. The first is upper body, the second lower body, and the third both upper and lower. No equipment is needed (a punchbag is optional), so it can be performed anywhere.
This will get you into shape! Anyone who says it's easy is not doing it right..it's as simple as that! And simplicity is the key to The Pit. The exercises are tough and are broken up with hiting or kicking the bag (or shadow boxing if you don't have a bag handy).
Although Chuck Lidell's name is used to sell the DVD, the workout is taught by John Hackelman (Lidell's teacher). Hackelman is a great teacher.
Bottom line: If you buy this DVD and follow the workouts three times a week, you will get into great shape!
Movie Review: The real deal, indeed Summary: 5 Stars
The three workouts included in this two dvd package are extraordinarily challenging. They are comprised of basic exercises--bag drills, shadow-boxing, push-ups, free squats, sprawls, and other calisthenics--but arranged in such a way, performed at so quick a pace, and done in such high repetitions as to be simply exhausting. I suspect, though, that if you're looking at this product, that's what you're looking for. I can't imagine better routines for building aerobic and anaerobic fitness as well as muscular power and endurance. Moreover, John Hackleman--who leads the workouts and whose credibility as a trainer is immensely bolstered by the fact that he performs them along with the other participants--is an excellent task-master, both demanding and very affable.
Movie Review: The most intense workout I have ever done Summary: 5 Stars
I have purchased several products on amazon but have rarely been compelled to write a review--the Pit Workout is the most notable exception. First off, I like to work hard at the gym with weight training and cardio four days a week. I really thought I was in shape but the Pit DVD immediately made clear this WAS NOT the case! The first day--the upper body workout--absolutely destroyed me. I was panting, shaking my head in disbelief, vomitted three times, and experienced biting muscle soreness even before the workout was over. The other two workouts were no different. This is a GREAT program that will truly leave you feeling as if you have accomplished something; the thing is just an onslaught that never quits! HIGHLY recommedned!
