Movie Review: One of my favorites from the eighties!
Summary: 5 Stars
I really loved this movie as a teenager in the eighties. I watched it over and over and over until I all but wore the tape out. I enjoy The Pirates of Penzance as well, but I find this spoof just hilarious! Yes, it's corny. Yes, it's full of very 80's-style (early eighties, at that) music. But I love it anyway! I was so excited when I saw it was coming out on DVD - now I never have to worry about wearing the tape out again!Movie Review: GREAT ON THE CAMP SIDE

and helped by great orchestrations, Ted Hamilton, Maggie Kirkpatrick, the principal stars and the fact it dosn`t take itself seriously.
There are obvious flaws(notably when Mabel is thrown into the water), but the enthusiasm is genuine...
I took my girlfriend Monika to see this as a sweet 15 year old and that summer - the soundtrack of this film was "our" songs at the time hehehe...
Movie Review: A parody of the greatest essence

The movie is defiantly right out of the 80s and a classic `B' film. It is basically a parody to Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. It is both a comedy and a musical with such films as Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark thrown in. There are many hilarious overtures thrown into the mix and the main characters Frederic (Christopher Atkins) and Mabel (Kristy McNichol) go great together.

It never gets old...I can watch this movie over and over and over again. I started watching it as a young tween and am now showing it to my girls who love it as well. I love the clever humor (some I didn't get when I was younger) and the music gets me singing along. My teenage niece keeps stealing my dvd copy so I am going to have to order more!Movie Review: Family Favorite

We first found this movie when my daughters were pre-teens. It is still one of our all time favorites. If you like musicals like Grease and Bye-Bye Birdie, you will be a fan of this one as well. We were so happy to find it on DVD because we had been using a recorded off TV VHS for many years. Give me a happy ending - every time!
