Movie Reviews of The Pirate MovieMovie Review: its a good movie Summary: 4 Starsthe pirate movie though stupid makes me laugh i've been looking for the dvd for a long time and i will by it
Movie Review: Cheezy but nostalgic Summary: 4 StarsThe story line and the script is pure 14-carot velveeta but it brings me back to my teen years when this movie first came out. I loved the music, the dance numbers and the scenery. Not to mention, the costumes and hairstyles conjure up memories of the big hair, excess makeup and superficiality that uniquely signified the eighties.
Movie Review: Underrated film-- Cult Classic today Summary: 5 StarsSome of the online reviews bring to mind the snobbishness of the reviews in 1982. This film is brilliant in its silliness and slapstick humor. The thrust of the movie was not so much to "remake" Pirates of Penzance, but to update it and make the humor more accessible to a new group of people, as well as poking fun at those who believed that the now subtle humor of "Pirates of Penzance" was only for the "highbrow." Well, giving a bit of a background of Gilbert and Sullivan their humor at the time was aimed squarely at the rigidity and formality of the upper classes, and was considered slapstick, silly and highly accessible in its time. This movie pokes fun at the upperclasses, and was highly offensive to the reviewers of the time because of this. Sit back and enjoy it, but also realize that this movie does far more than simply make fun of Pirates of Penzance, Star Wars and Raiders.....
Movie Review: Shiver Me Timbers (come on, who can resist?) Summary: 4 StarsIt has been 20 or so years since I watched this movie. I had forgotten how fun it was. The movie though is different through the eyes of an adult. It is really quite saucy for a movie from the 1980's. It is such a great farce of a movie. What a fun way to remember my youth by revisiting such a romp of a movie.
Movie Review: Silly but fun Summary: 2 StarsI loved this movie when it came out and though it's quite silly and a bit choppy, I still love it. Just don't buy the DVD in hopes of getting much more than is on the VHS tape. The sound is bad, it has no subtitles for the hearing impaired ( I Had to sign the whole thing to my girlfriend who had never seen it) and the commentary is more about the director in his good old days of working with Walt Disney and other older projects. He rarely speaks of the movie he's supposed to be commenting on.
