Movie Reviews of The Pink Panther Classic Cartoon CollectionMovie Review: THE PANTHER LIKE NO OTHER! Summary: 4 StarsGet the whole classic cartoon collection in the long run it is worth the value and entertainment. These are cartoons that are nostalgic with epic brilliance and quality that is missing in our current millennium age.
Movie Review: Pink Panther is on the scent. Summary: 5 StarsI gave this to my nephew for x-mas as he looooves the Pink. What a hit. This is a hard to find item with 5 discs and all 124 episodes. Plus, it has a 'how to' clip on drawing the PP.
Enjoy, we do!
Movie Review: Just play the cartoons already! Summary: 3 StarsThe cartoons are great. There's no question about that. If you're reading this review, then you already know that. My beef is with MGM's presentation. Right off the bat they feel the need to show a dark, edgy plug on the evils of illegal downloading, comparing it to stealing cars and purse-snatching. This loud, harshly edited commercial is about as far from the innocent, laid-back mood of the Pink Panther cartoons as you could possibly get. The hackers and pirates this unnerving propaganda piece is aimed at are certainly not the nostalgic boomers and their children who would be watching Pink Panther cartoons in the first place. The problem is if you try to use your "skip" button to move on past this mean, ugly video - well, you can't. MGM felt the need to disable your right to skip their nasty little sermon. So your children will be assaulted by it every time they pop in the disc. Secondly, MGM long ago acquired the rights to these films from United Artists, and they feel the need to remind you of this before every cartoon. So, before the credits roll at the beginning of each cartoon, and before the fade-in of the familiar saxophone note of Henry Mancini's theme song, you get to see and hear the MGM lion roar - every single time. That may sound like a minor beef, but consider that, on Disc One alone, that darned lion roars 27 times. It gets old. One roar at the beginning of the video would have sufficed. To have MGM's brand stamped on your child's brain every seven minutes for 13 hours is more than excessive. It's unnecessarily distracting, and a shameless overkill. A little continuity would have been nice. The whole viewing experience could have been a lot more enjoyable if MGM would have just gotten out of the way and let the cartoons play.
