Movie Reviews of The Pink Panther [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Laughter therapy!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Steve Martin is a PERFECT Inspector Clousseau! Every bit as funny as Peter Sellers and actually much more loveable. (Of course, I am a huge Steve Martin fan - if you like him too, you will LOVE this.) My whole family was practically rolling on the floor laughing. Lots of physical comedy. VERY enjoyable movie - especially for Steve Martin fans. One word of caution: If your kids are young, some scenes are sexually suggestive - thus the PG rating. If they are VERY young, these scenes will probably go right over their heads.

Movie Review: FUNNY BONE HURTS
Summary: 5 Stars

AS GOOD AS PETER SELLERS BUT NOT BETTER. STEVE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD PULL THIS OFF.

MUST SEE

Movie Review: why? and how?
Summary: 1 Stars

simple enough questions. let's deal with the why? first. not so much why the pink panther, but why have remakes become such a big deal? my fears over this, j-horror films, assualt on precinct 13 and texas chainsaw massacre have in the main proved sadly justified. plus we've got the butchering of oldboy to look forward to - hurrah for hollywood! worrying times when these films get the green light and the likes of 'idiocracy' gets buried -maybe because that film said something no-one wanted to hear. maybe if they stopped producing such insipid garbage as friends or big brother we could start afresh with some brave new ideas.
anyway, i digress. as a fan of peter sellers i'll admit to being prejudiced against steve martin (or anyone for that matter) attempting to portray him. an aside on alan arkin, who did a reasonable enough job to his credit and was helped by the fact that he did the second film, rather than say the fourth or fifth, by which stage sellers had made clouseau his own.
enough of this windy preamble and on to teh film itself, and the how? aspect. which of course means how can anyone find this film funny? whereas sellers' interpretation always came across as bumbling yes but essentially harmless (well, you know what i mean). martin turns him from bumbling fool into at the denouement a brilliant detective with an extraordinary memory. seems a bit of of synch (sp) with the main part of the film, non? sadly he also overacts on a scale i haven't seen in quite some time, to the extent where it became painful to watch.
there are maybe one or two funy moments, but in the main the comedy is so heavily signposted that by the time the joke arrives it falls flat on its face. how far have you fallen from/ since 'the man with two brains' steve? its also a shame to see the talents of kevin kline, jean reno and emily mortimer (who admittedly i have a bit of a thing for) wasted. similarly beyonce doesn't have much to do apart from sound (and look!) great.
plus, and i mentioned this in a review on the 'uk' site, clouseau is a frenchman. so why the hell is he using the s word, when everyone in france call the occasionally beautiful game football? could this be an american influence or something? really, do your research, or get your character studies right.
and please guys, no more remakes. what's next? i heard taxi driver was in the works...

Movie Review: Steve Martin tried but movie is a bomb.
Summary: 1 Stars

DVD shown in Widescreen. Warning: This is not a Blake Edwards movie.
The first "THE PINK PANTHER" (1964) film starred Peter Sellers as "Inspector Jacques Clouseau". This spy-comedy was a major success and it begun a series of Pink Panther cartoons theatrically and as a tv-series. People had already seen the James Bond 007 films, Dr No (1962) and From Russia With Love (1963).
The second "Pink Panther" film, A SHOT IN THE DARK (1964), introduced Herbert Lom as "Dreyfuss", Bert Kwouk as "Kato", Peter Sellers, of course, returned as the bumbling Inspector, a role he would continue to play in 3 more films, THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER (1975), THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN (1976), REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (1978). Peter Sellers died in 1980.
They had an idea. With the use of unseen footage of Sellers and bringing back other characters in new footage, they were able to make Trail of the Pink Panther (1982).
At the same time, they were also filming "CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER" (1983) with Ted Wass (ABC's SOAP) as the Inspector.
10 years later, they tried Roberto Benigni as "SON OF THE PINK PANTHER" (1993).
13 years later, in an attempt to bring back The Pink Panther, Steve Martin was chosen as the new "Inspector Clouseau" after much voice training on Martin's part. However the number 13 would be unlucky for the film.
No one from the original films made an appearance.
Steve Martin tries in this one with Jean Reno as his partner, "Pon Ton". Kevin Kline as "Dreyfuss". Kristin Chenoweth has three small scenes. They should have made her part of the lead instead. She would make a great second banana to Steve Martin. Steve Martin and Jean Reno look great as partners.
Special Features: Audio Commentary by Director Shawn Levy, Alternate Opening title sequence CG version, Extended and deleted Scenes, featurettes, behind-the-scenes sleuth-cams.
A music video and a performance of Beyonce.
A clip of Sweet & Low "Think Pink".
Option of English or French. Audio Set-up. Option of subtitles in English or French.

Bottom Line: You cannot make a successful "Pink Panther" film without the writing and directing of Mr. Blake Edwards.

***Pink Panther 2 will be released February 13, 2009 with Steve Martin returning, but with John Cleese as "Dreyfuss".

Movie Review: better than the original
Summary: 5 Stars

This modern day remake of the classic 70s comedy slash adventure movie will thrill you with its brilliance. A word of warning this movie has some mild high occasional crude and sexual humor thrown in with some occasionally curse word from in and couple mild high moments of brief action adventure violence sequences. This movie should be thing for kids ages 10-12. As the movie begins a famous French soccer player has just been murdered. Office Closeau played by the well known comedian Steve Martian know for his famous roles in the 1980s particularly his role as the sadistic dentist in the 1980s remake of the 1960s colt classic Little shop of Horrors. I'd just fought I'd inform you there have been some changes made to this movie since the original version was first released about 30 years ago. The humor and puns in this movie are more adult humor than in the original 70s version. Three other major chances that have been made instead of the Pink Panther diamond belonging to a princess from India I believe it belongs to a local French soccer coach. 2 other changes that have been made are in the remake Closeau is not framed in court for stealing the diamond and put in jail as result. Another major change in the new version is that Closeau is not married and is not being cheated on secretly behind his back. Will the bumbling but handsome Closeau solve this baffling mystery find out in the thrilling hilarious conclusion to this wonderful remake.
