Movie Reviews of The Picture of Dorian GrayMovie Review: Disappointing Summary: 3 StarsAlthough the movie stays pretty much close to the book, it's disappointing. George Sanders performance is over the top with speech more rapid fire than Shatner. Very distracting. The supernatural part is attributed to a mystic cat statue when the book offers no explanation for the painting's transformation.
Movie Review: The BEST version of Dorian Gray Summary: 5 StarsAlthough this movie has been made quite a few times, this original version with George Sanders, Donna Reed and Angela Landsbury is without doubt, the best version of this classic story. Creepy and excellent direction makes this a "must-have" for any B/W movie buff. I've watched it 3x already!
Movie Review: Dorian Gray Comes to Us at LAST! (and in an Edition to Treasure!) Summary: 5 StarsFinally, the folks at Warner get around to this Grand Old Shocker! I have "waited forever" for this favorite old film to be released on dvd.
The people in charge here have done a lovely bang-up job on this one, folks! You MUST not only SEE this, you MUST have it on your shelves, to watch and enjoy anytime you want, over and over!
The transfer is just beautiful, and lovingly restored...it will blow you away if you are familiar already with this film....what a Wonderful Job these people have done here!
And, the extras are really nice...the commentary by Angela Lansbury is wonderful! And, there are the two Tom and Jerry cartoons (always a treat when they include animations like these), plus more.
So, get yourself a copy of this marvelous old film, and turn out ALL the lights, and just Enjoy this fabulous, creepy, old shocker, with Hurd Hatfield, George Sanders (at his Evilest), Angela Lansbury, Peter Lawford, and Donna Reed (what a cast)...You're Gonna LOVE It, either "new to it", or "all over again"!
Movie Review: A Must Have For the Movie Collector Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful movie and a must have for any classic movie collector. Lord Wotton is responsible for leading Dorian down the path of damnation and destruction. Dorian eagerly buy into Lord Wotton's cynical philosophies. I like the introduction of color when viewing the portrait. Although Dorian looks okay in black & white, the color portrait allows one to understand how the characters in the movie could be so enamoured of him.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Movie Review: WONDERFUL !! Summary: 5 StarsI was waiting for this DVD since several months ago. It is a masterpiece. The production is so good. I recommend it so much for someone who is interested in good art movies and of course, in Mr. Oscar Wilde's novels. We see our lovely Angela Lansbury so young in a particular role. Don't miss it !
