Movie Reviews of The PianoMovie Review: Brilliant Summary: 5 Stars
I love The Piano. The story is excellent and intriguing and the actors bring out the characters beautifully. Holly Hunter, who won an Oscar for this role, does very well in a role that requires no lines. She acts with her face and with her body and the her silence transcends the normal realm of communication. Harvey Keitel, whom I understand is usually the uber macho-man, struck the perfect balance between his macho masculinity and the true depths of George Baines. I'm very disappointed he didn't win the Oscar for this role because I think he does a wonderful job in this film. Jane Campion's directing is beautiful and the whole film reflects that.
Movie Review: It was emotional for me, and overall: simply amazing... Summary: 5 Stars
I never cry at movies, and in general, I nearly ever cry at all, but this movie set of a set of emotions that had me in tears at one point and angry at one character or another enough to rip my television apart with my bear hands. This movie is sad, enraging, happy, and yet in the end, dispite my expelling of emotion, I still felt although I could've gotten more out of the film. This movie was amazing and I would recommend this to anyone who would enjoy something that has drama, a bit of romance (in the sexual sense- not something to show the children...), and one of those 'overcomming odds' qualities.
Movie Review: Good Movie Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this movie. However, I find myself disagreeing with the person who suggested that art house productions are an acid test of how deep a person you really are. You only need to look outside of your window to know you are deep.As for the soul, what's to say that we don't have one? This film greets us with that suggestion, as such, and guessing is one thing compared to another: not proof. Check your baggage out the door. There is no right way to enjoy this film, only let it soak into you. If you love this film you'll surely enjoy the way the songs melt into you from the skin up.
Movie Review: "The Piano" will leave YOU speechless !!! Summary: 5 Stars
I wouldn't even know how to describe this movie effectively, but I can begin by saying that it is truly a great masterpiece and a bargain at ANY price. Surprisingly, it is also extremely hard to find in stores. Rarely will you ever find a movie this original... And just when you think the film is coming to its end, something HUGE happens, and it is by far the most memorable and most artsy scene I have ever seen in ANY film before!!! Your jaw will drop to the floor! And the soundtrack is absolutely haunting... so perfectly suited for this picture. There is little else to say but BUY THIS DVD !!!
Movie Review: The Piano Summary: 5 Stars
Set in the 19th century, Jane Campion's brilliant period tale "The Piano" was rightly lauded in 1993 for its eccentric storyline and otherworldly, dreamlike atmosphere. Despite never uttering a word, Oscar winner Hunter exudes intelligence and determination as the rebellious Ada, along with a repressed yet combustible sensuality. Anna Paquin is a marvel in her debut, exemplifying the mix of spunk and knowingness that made her a sought-after young star. Visually ravishing and exquisite, "The Piano" is Campion's visually poetic ode to our unspoken emotions.
