Movie Reviews of The Piano

Movie Review: Don't mistake this for a 'regular romantic tale' !
Summary: 5 Stars

An amazing, overwhelming film that really manages to grab your attention right from the beginning. Holly Hunter manages to express a lot with her eyes, she performs with extreme vigor, passion and flamboyancy, you can't take your eyes off her, every moment she manages to convey something or the other to the viewer, Sam Neill and Harvey Keitel are excellent. The film starts with a normal slow pace but gets very dark and bold slowly. The score is beautiful, the chemistry between every co-star is excellent in the film, the film doesn't emphasize on romance or just passionate tales, there is much more than that as the film gets very bold in terms of human sexuality and can be disturbing to the viewer at times. Moreover, the film is a pure example of neat acting and direction, beautiful locations and a priceless Piano score makes the film worthwhile.

Movie Review: You'll either love it or hate it
Summary: 5 Stars

I have watched this movie at least a half dozen times since it's release and I am not tired of it yet. I am not an art house movie fan, but this one will either grab you by the throat and mesmerize you or it will totally turn you off. It is that strong a movie that there are no neutral reactions. My husband, who normally sleeps through my movies (even Schindler's List for God's sake!) could not sleep through this one. I have force fed it to a number of friends and the reaction is either gut-wrenching identifucation with the characters, or turning away in anger or disgust. By all means see it and judge for yourself, but don't plan on on easy movie experience. It is allegorical, romantic and harsh and beautiful and lovely to listen to and Holly Hunter considers it some of her best work. So do I.

Movie Review: SIX STARS
Summary: 5 Stars

I think Jane Campion, the director of the excellent "Angel at My Table", to be an important director, and this her finest work. It was the first movie that I had ever seen, and lord knows I have seen thousands, that I thought of as a truly great work of art. Up until that time, 1993, the best movie I had ever seen, and now, in 2006, I would still have to think hard to come up with a better one. "The Age of Innocence" and "Chocolat" are not far behind. Holly Hunter, Harvey Keitel, always mesmerizing, and New Zealand. The score must almost be considered an additional character, it was so haunting and memorable. This is just simply a don't miss film. One to see over and over. And like this year's "Brokeback Mountain", a story of repressed emotions. In another time, and place.

Movie Review: Lovely movie...
Summary: 5 Stars

A temperamental, mute German (?) woman travels to remote New Zealand with her daughter and her beloved piano for an arranged marriage. She has problems adjusting to her new surroundings, possibly because her husband refuses to carry her piano, her sole means of communication, from the shore to their new house. A neighbor offers to bring it up, in return for some lesons, and a love triangle develops....

This movie has a very original story line, good characters, and very good acting that bring up the best in the movie. The soundtrack is terrific, and combines very well with this movie since this is Ada's voice and her only way to express herself, even if she is miosunderstood by the surrounding society. This movie is especially worth watching for all music lovers out there!

Movie Review: Putting my $$ where my mouth is..
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved 'The Piano.'

AND the reason I looooooved the Emperor's new clothes is because I personally designed them!

I've just ordered the DVD for my collection because I loved the setting of the plot and sometimes want to escape to New Zealand, Why? Because I need to escape the bombardment of the news of the current war/s and their inevetable consequences.

Movies were created I imagine, for us ordinary folk to escape for a couple of hours; get entertained, let our hair down. I believe The Piano provided us that service.

What's wrong with Harvy's member being shown on screen? Everyone's father has/had one! (Shame-based assumptions are, in my opinion, possible signs of emotional or mental instability and quite unhealthy.)
