Movie Reviews of The Piano

Movie Review: Shallow characters, bizarre story
Summary: 2 Stars

That's basically my two cents. Shallow characters, bizarre story. I am not the kind of person who usually watches romance films, but I do like a good story and heard this was one. It was not. All of the characters were inverted - Ada and her daughter were utterly irritating, George was disgusting from start to finish, and Sam Neill's character (supposedly the heartless jerk) was actually the easiest to sympathize with. How frustrating!

On a positive note, Michael Nyman's score is unbelievable. I love it.

Movie Review: Holly Hunter great actress, beatifull bodie
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi
Nice and interesting drama , but the best part is Holly Hunter naked, long scene, a rare appearance for this actress.
So if you are her fan or just a collector like me this movie is for you.

Regards

Avi

Movie Review: One of the few artsy films I enjoy
Summary: 4 Stars

Like most artsy films, The Piano is a visual experience. And, because it's an artsy film, it will be hard for me to explain why I liked it so much. As previously stated, the visual aspect of the film is mesmerizing and amazing: it's a great experience. What gives this film it's strength is its visual expressiveness: meanings are shown through movements, gestures, expression, and of course, music, not words.

I did not know of the feminist controversy surrounding this film before I saw it, but now that I know about it it still doesn't affect the way I see this film. I don't think the point of the film is to make one see her as a strong or weak woman for choosing to do the things she does in her relationships with her husband and his neighbor George, but to see that her will is in control at all times. She does what she wants; all the choices she makes are the choices SHE made. As long as that continues to be true, she is still in control of her life, and that makes her a strong character.

Performances are strong as well, especially Anna Paquin's character. Holly Hunter as the proud, passionate Ada, Harvey Keitel as the desiring neightbor, and Sam Neil as the sadly pathetic yet pitiable husband, round off the rest of the powerful cast in this powerful movie.

Movie Review: Chop! Chop!
Summary: 1 Stars

(What do Holly Hunter and Burt Reynolds have in common?)

Just another flick about a gal who falls for an abuser, this time with the gimicks of a waterlogged piano and exotic New Zealand Maori.

The tribe had it right, though, ignore these two losers and stick with the trees.

Movie Review: An okay movie
Summary: 3 Stars

I have seen this movie a few times over the years, but it is not a movie that really grabs my attention or makes me want to watch again. I liked the unusual love story between Baines and Ada, but found the story of the movie odd. Everything about the movie is pretty dull.
