Movie Review: Dutton illuminates August Wilson's remarkable story.
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a first class adaptation of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which also starred Charles Dutton. Dutton transforms his on-stage energy into on-screen intensity without any lingering "staginess." August Wilson has created a perfectly balanced dilemma, which is faced by the descendants of slaves, shedding light on the difficulties in choosing between heritage and material success. The Piano Lesson is about African Americans, but it's message is much broader, and concerns choices faced by most Americans, whatever their heritage.
