Movie Reviews of The People Under The StairsMovie Review: Laughs and jumps all the way through! Summary: 4 StarsThis is a seriously fun film. Yes it has bad acting and a silly storyline, but the film is still a lot of fun. I remember watching this a few times as a kid when it came out and being intrigued by how weird it was. Now as an adult I still have a smile on my face as the crazy mom and dad run through the house trying to catch this kid. There are a few good laughs and a few jumps to be had. This movie won't be for everyone, but any fan of horror should check it out!
Movie Review: The People Under The Stairs Summary: 4 StarsI have always liked this movie. Along with the horror, there's some comedy thrown in.
Movie Review: "I don't want to see another cop or cookie in my life" Summary: 4 StarsWes Craven's People Under the Stairs is his best film after A Nightmare on Elm Street. Enough has been written about the plot on here, but I will say that it's a great horror/suspense flick with some humor thrown in and the performances are all top-notch for what it is. The Man and Woman (who Wes Craven both casted after seeing them in the TV series Twin Peaks according to IMDB) go all out in their roles and did a fine darn job! Maybe they are the cousins of Mommie Dearest? It's basically a fun thrill-ride where the majority takes place in a huge house of trap doors and mazes. This film should be in any true horror fans collection! Check it out!
Movie Review: A great Horror Comedy!! Summary: 5 StarsAnyone that gives this a bad reveiw because of the lack of horror really needs to go get a sense of humor!! The people under the stairs is the kind of movie you watch when you just dont want to do any deep thinking its fun and relaxing. I thought when I first started watching it on tv one night that it would be the typical wes craven scare fest but ten minutes into it I was laughing out loud. Its really worth atleast renting if not buying!
Movie Review: This movie is not cliched Summary: 4 StarsAn earlier review I read of this movie seems to be horribly off. It mentions that it follows a horror-movie cliche where the cops are offered food and then give up the search.
However, this reviewer is dead wrong on several accounts. One, they are not policemen at all, but rather are child services. Two, the horror movie cliche would be having the policemen not believe the little boy crying wolf. Three, instead of following cliches, this movie instead turns around and breaks all of the cliches.
Instead of being afraid, only being able to scream, and seemingly always frozen in place, Fool instead doesn't ever really scream, either runs away or TURNS AROUND, FED UP, AND ATTACKS THE VILLAINS HIMSELF. At one point, he turns around, says "I'm through running" and tackles a man-eating dog that is bigger than him.
Is a character who isn't afraid of the villains, a character who fights back, a cliche? No.
This movie was hilarious, captivating, and one of Wes Craven's hidden gems, in my opinion.
