Movie Reviews of The Party

Movie Review: Peter Sellers Was A Genius
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't sleep one night and so I stumbled into the living room and turned on the television and caught this movie right from the beginning...talk about luck...and I quickly forgot all about my insomnia and was genuinely entertained by yet another great Blake edwards/Peter Sellers collaboration.

Peter Sellers plays Indian actor Hrundi Bakshi, a stumbling, bumbling boob who ruins the set of the movie he is in. The director of the movie calls the studio executive to have the Sellers character blacklisted but instead he accidentally gets placed on a list to be invited to a party at the studio executive's home. What happens after Sellers arrives at the party is pure hilarity.

It does lag in certain parts and it downright fizzles at the end, but all in all, if you're a Peter Sellers fan like I am, you will be entertained but then again, if you are a Peter Sellers fan, you've probably already have seen it now all you need to do is buy it.

Movie Review: Best Kept Secret
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a best kept secret: The Party is the funniest movie Peter Sellers ever made.

That's a hefty claim, especially considering that most people have never even heard of this movie. But I remember seeing The Party when it came out in the theatres. I remember laughing until my sides hurt. I remember not seeing it again for 40 years. I remember thinking it might seem dated and bland now. It is not!

In fact, I recommend a new American tradition. Buy the DVD, invite over friends or family for a "The Party Party", provide a few snacks, and let the laughs begin. It might be their first and only chance to share in an experience that they would likely miss in their lifetime, and you could enjoy seeing the results. Just be prepared when the drinks start coming out their nose.

The ending is a bit dated and the last scene anti-climactic. The rest is classic, and a must for Peter Sellers fans - or anybody.

Movie Review: Peter Sellers: Genius
Summary: 5 Stars

Up until seven years ago, I thought I had seen everything Peter Sellers made that was worth seeing (The Clouseau films, Dr. Strangelove, Being There, The Mouse That Roared, etc). However, when I saw The Party, I realized that I had missed one of his funniest (and least appreciated) films. It's not politically correct, but for sheer laughs it rivals anything Sellers ever did with the possible exception of A Shot in the Dark and Dr. Strangelove. The premise (Indian actor mistakenly invited to a swanky Hollywood party wreaks havoc) might have resulted in a boring, repetitive film in the hands of a lesser comedic actor. However, Sellers brings it off brilliantly, packing the film with wall to wall sight gags that have the viewer gasping for air most of the time. Although The Party is one of Peter Sellers' lesser known films, it definitely is one of his funniest and makes you miss his comedic genius.

Movie Review: BUY THIS FILM !!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a truly hysterical movie. It not only looks fabulous because it is very 60's, but it is truly funny, consistently throughout the whole film. I could watch it just to feast my eyes on the beautiful style of the sets, and the fashions. There are so many funny scenes. My favorites {without giving away too much}, are when Sellers loses his shoe at the beginning of the party and what idiotic things happen in chain-reaction from that, and also the dinner scene, when the whole dinner just keeps unraveling into the most absurd problem after ridiculous problem. I nearly died from that dinner scene. Also the drunk waiter was a genius addition and a running joke through the film. This is as funny as the Pink Panther movies, {well some of those were funnier than others}. You will not be disappointed.

Movie Review: One of the Most Hilarious Brilliant comedies of all time !
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this brilliant comedy in the mid-80s on TV, by pure chance. It was late at night, and as usual, all the good movies are shown very late. I and everybody in my family were mesmerized and laughing non-stop. Absolutely brilliant Peter Sellers in a brilliant Blake Edwards comedy. One of a Kind Classic Comedy. Totaly Must Have in DVD collection. It belongs to 10 star rating!!!
This is one of the very few comedies that you can watch it over and over and over again, and you'll be laughing all the way from beginning to the end every time.
"Party" also belongs to 5 best comedies of all time, together with another Peter Sellers+Blake Edwards classic "Pink Panther", and these two with another 8 best comedies is a Must-to-Have in everyone's collection.
