Movie Reviews of The Parent Trap (1961) and The Parent Trap II (1986): 2-Movie Collection (2-Disc Set)Movie Review: The original is wonderful but the sequel is ehh. Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this for a report I had to do, and I could'nt find it anywhere except on amazon. They were polite and shiped it fast.
The original movie ,as you all know if you have seen it, is wonderful, but I can't say the same for the "sequel". The "sequel" is about this girl, Nikki Ferris (Carrie Kei Heim, who's mom,Sharon(Hayley Mills), want's to move because of her recent divorse. In the middle of packing,Nikki must go to summer school, where she ends up meeting her soon to be best friend,Mary Grant (Bridgette Andersen). Nikki, who does not want to move in the first place, conspires with Mary, who's mom recently died, to get their mom and dad together so Nikki wont have to move. The two girls must get Nikki's aunt Susan,(Hayley Mills), in on the deal to pull it off. This "sequel" is basicly the same as the original but has a different scenerio.
The reason I am puting sequel in quotations is because was already a sequel and another movie after that about Susan and Sharon meeting this dad of triplets and one of them ends up marrying him. In the movie after the sequel they are on their honeymoon in Hawaii, where the girls of course come along. These two movies are way better than the parent trap "sequel".
Bottem line if you like the original you should get this dvd. Besides you may just like the "sequel".
Movie Review: Parent Trap Summary: 5 StarsGreat collection, especially if you love Haley Mills. This CD gives you both the original Parent Trap movie and also the TV Parent Trap II movie. It is a great!
Movie Review: Parent Trap Summary: 5 StarsIt came just like new We all injoyed it Old and Younger
Movie Review: Double Trouble Double Pleasure Summary: 5 StarsI am a Disney phile. I love classic Disney fare.
The Parent Trap was a great follow up after Pollyanna for child star Hayley Mills. This 1961 classic used split screen better than ever. The supporting cast of Brian Keith (five years before he become Uncle Bill on Family Affair- when does that reach DVD?), Maureen O'Hara And Leo G. Carroll (Four years before he became a part of U.N.C.L.E-as in the man from!) works so well with the twin Mills's Sharon and Susan.
Most of the extra features from the Vault Disney version is here... except for the audio comments from Ms Mills and Direction David Swift. Unless you need the comments, the DVD is fine without it.
Twenty years later, Disney did a sequel, Parent Trap II. This wonderful comedy of errors happened so DISNEY-ish and works so well on many levels. Nikki and her friend Mary try to bring Mary's father together with Sharon. Enter Nikki's married aunt Susan to help Nikki and mary with their problem and the fun begins. The split screen effect is good, but not as good in the orginal trap. It STILL is pure Disney magic captured in a DVD
There are no extras regarding Parent Trap II... I know somewhere in the vault there is a 'making of PT2' feature, which is NOT on here. For Shame!
For children of all ages and fans of family entertainment, this DVD collection is great fun and rates high in my book

Movie Review: Finally Summary: 5 StarsI was very surprized and thrilled to see that The Parent Trap II finally came to DVD. I've been looking forward to this for a very long time. I can't wait to see the third one come out. I hope it won't take as long as the second one.
