Movie Reviews of The Pajama GameMovie Review: Fun, Charming, if Lightweight Musical Summary: 4 Stars
Silly, boring in spots, but a lot of fun for the most part, with some great Bob Fosse choreography, and some interesting
set design and lighting. Good use of neon. Sexy new foreman at pajama factory falls
for union leader, gets caught in middle during strike talks. The DVD image and color quality is quite nice for a film of
this vintage.
Movie Review: Just a Classic Musical (loved the music) Summary: 4 Stars
I remember watching this movie as a child and I must tell you it brought a smile to my face and a tap to my foot watching it as an adult. I did not realize how many of the songs I recognized. It was a trip down memory lane for me - and I totally enjoyed it!
Movie Review: Slow starter Summary: 4 Stars
I had a little problem getting the DVD started, but it did eventually and played satisfactorily.
Movie Review: boring Summary: 3 Stars
I normally love musicals and Doris Day, but I found this movie boring. I thought some of the songs sounded tortured when they went out of their way to make a single word hit several notes. I also thought some of the choreography suffered from trying too hard and ended up with me wondering how the movements corresponded to the song. I liked the costumes- especially the flashes of contrasting crinolines. Day's figure is so perfect she almost looks like she can't be flesh and blood- simply beautiful! Her hair was another story. It was too short and stiff- it looked manly rather than her usual demure ingenue. Although I thought the leading man was nice to look at, having a much better body than most leading men of that era, he was also too stiff to be really attractive. I might have watched this movie on cable, but I regret buying the dvd.
Movie Review: Widescreen version Summary: 3 Stars
This is a double-sided DVD, with the 3:4 version on one side (with the left and right sides of the picture chopped off, as you would expect) and the 16:9 (widescreen) version on the other. To make the widescreen version completely fill a 16:9 HDTV display, they chopped off the top and bottom of the frame. Arrgh. It would be nice for the next release (Blu-Ray?) to show the movie as originally shown, without anything cropped out. Which would leave modest bars on the left and the right.
