Movie Reviews of The Outsiders

Movie Review: SOME PEOPLE MISS THE POINT ENTIRELY
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, what a scathing review I just read of this terrific movie! Although I will agree that "The Outsiders" is sometimes sappy, it is overall an excellent movie which stands on its own with or without S.E. Hinton's novel. Yes, the Stevie Wonder song does make it a little too Lifetime-y, but other than that, it's pretty darn perfect as far as film adaptations go. Coppola is a masterful director, and this film is no exception. The cinematography is glorious. Look at how the night scenes are filmed; the lighting is fantastic! The use of the song "Gloria" is another one of Coppola's techniques that make the movie work. Call it Lifetime for guys, call it sappy, but you can't call it crap because you can't appreciate it. The cast, although a who's who of teen actors from that time, have by and large gone on to bigger and better things since this movie was released.

Movie Review: Six Stars for this Perfect, Stirring film.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book and movie was one-in-a-million. Being more of a romantic person myself, this was a novel and movie I never would have thought of, but I had to for school. We were supposed to be reading in class, but I cracked the book at home out of boredom and couldn't put it down. We had already watched 20 minutes of the film in class and I drank up the rest of the movie. My sister read it than we found it on DVD and bought it. I love this story so much, the all-star dream cast gives award worthy performances in this stirring tale of seven misfits pulling together to survive the East-side of the 1960s. The comraderie, drama, bittersweet comedy, and struggle these boys weather is heart-warming and emotional. C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, Partick Swayze, Matt Dillon, and Tom Cruise were superb. I could watch it again and again....

Movie Review: Cool book review
Summary: 5 Stars

I hated how the actors played their parts in the movie. There was no good personification. So that meant that I didn't' felt as the actors should belong to that movie based in that cool book. Maybe the plot was OK but definitely the setting was not as I expected. In the book you imagine all this cool places and with the movie all this things get ruined. I didn't imagine the church that way and neither the vacant lot. I liked more how the whole environment in the book was than in the movie. The themes of the book are discussed well to be a movie. But nothing compares to the book; in the book is much, much better than in the movie. The one that is better is the book far cooler than the movie. I loved book and its theme.

Movie Review: Brilliant Brat Pack Starring Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Great movie, saw this a long time ago on an old beta videotape, was my mate's copy, but one part in it that still bugs me to this day is when Ponyboy is reading Gone With The Wind to Johnny & the picture & audio jumps, this is the part what Ponyboy says i refer to: "Stretched out in endless roads(jump in picture/audio sound) under the carshed" so you miss some of the words Ponyboy is reading from the book to Johnny. Also, i have the Australian "20th Anniversary Edition" on DVD, nothing other than the trailer for special features, what a weak "20th Anniversary Edition". Other than that, i love every minute of this film, as i do the book. I also hope they come out with a special extended 121min DVD version soon. This movie will "Stay Gold" forever.

Movie Review: The Most Touching Movie Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

When I was told to read this book for English class, I thought that it sounded extremely boring. Boy, was I wrong! I read it over, and over, and over again until I finally bought the DVD and book. The movie is great!!! I must say, Ralph Macchio is the actor to make the movie great. He WAS Johnny! When I read the book, I cried when Ponyboy finds the letter from Johnny, and I did the same thing in the movie, but it was so much more touching when you hear the music at the end. "Stay Gold" fits in with the theme so well! And the scene in the backround... The first thing I thought when I finished the book was "This needs to be made into a movie!" I was so happy when I realized that it was already made; I didn't have to wait!
