Movie Reviews of The Outlaw Josey Wales

Movie Review: Clint at his best
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a must see/own for any die hard Clint Eastwood fan. This movie has it all, action, drama, comedy, tradgedy and all the other ingreidents that make a movie great. Based on a true story, but somewhat off the mark for historical accuracy, it does not take anything away from the movie. The acting is superb and Chief Dan George is out of this world in this movie. The plot is excellent and a well written script keeps the audience enthralled and entertained, with the action moving a great clip. This western, although, should really be listed under military, helped establish Clint as a star of many traits and not just westerns. The only flaw in the movie is, as with most westerns of this time, no one seems to run out of ammo and the death scenes, of which there are many, lack the bloodiness of the time. A great movie, but some nudity and perhaps too much violence for small childern.

Movie Review: "Sunshine, sunflowers and sons of bitches."
Summary: 5 Stars

Over thirty years ago Clint Eastwood made what is probably his greatest western -- moreso, I think than even UNFORGIVEN -- OUTLAW JOSEY WALES. Based on Forrest Carter's novel GONE TO TEXAS, it is the story of simple farmer whom the Civil War reshapes into a relentless machine of vengence. Originally intended as a Phil Kaufmann film, a falling out with Eastwood but Clint behind and infront of the camera. A wonderful cast including Bill Mckinney as the absolutely vile CPT "Redlegs" Terrell and John Vernon as the man Wales thinks betrayed him. In the opening montage look for western tv legend John Russell as "Bloody" Bill Anderson. A few extras on the making of this movie. A real cornerstone of any western collection. Somewhat put down upon release in 1976, today a true classic. Strangely enough, the same year as Duke Wayne's lAst film, the western classic THE SHOOTIST.

Movie Review: An Eastwood classic
Summary: 5 Stars

Clint Eastwood's The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of his best,a tale of revenge by a farmer whose family has been
murdered by a band of Red-legs during the time of the Civil War. The cast is outstanding and the story line flows from the time the helpless farmer Wales sees his family murdered to the final climax when Wales now a hunted Outlaw and killer gets his revenge. eighty year old Chief Dan George is wonderful as an old Indian who has lost his way as the white man has pushed his people onto the reservation. Will Sampson is also excellent as an Indian Chief who becomes Wales blood brother against the Red-legs.

Movie Review: Classic Clint
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this after watching Gran Torino. A vidid Clint Fan happy to own most of his movies, something happend to me when i finished Gran Torino an hunger to see the classic man with no name in the lines of a strong story line, and saga , this is when i picked up the Outlaw Josey Wales DVD such a delight to watch a long movie but has Clint Eastwood evolve into a different screenplay and screen presence a drift or shift from his usual squint , the photography, score and screenplay just outstanding. A finite must for any Clint Eastwood movie collectors list

Movie Review: The Outlaw Josey Wales
Summary: 5 Stars

The problem is that the DVD I ordered said it had an aspect ratio of 1.33:1, but what I received was 2.35:1. I already have a copy of this DVD at 2.35:1. What I wanted was an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, or 1.33:1, which is full screen. I do not like letter box. I called Amazon about the mix up and they sent me another copy, but its still 2.35:1. There should be a full screen version of this movie out there, or at least one with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
