Movie Reviews of The Outlaw Josey Wales

Movie Review: The Outlaw Josey Wales
Summary: 5 Stars

One of Eastwood's finest and most underrated directorial efforts, "Outlaw" leaves behind the actor's Man With No Name persona for a slightly more honorable, if no less laconic, hero out for vengeance. Though he's a wanted renegade with an agenda, Wales befriends a wry Cherokee, Lone Watie (George), and two settlers, old-timer Paula Trueman and sultry Sondra Locke. Cheated of his own family, Wales forms--and then must defend--a make-shift community where trust and respect are the founding pillars. Great acting, exquisite photography, and an engaging story about alliances make for a rousing, thoughtful Western. Open your door for this Outlaw.

Movie Review: best western ever, as well as therapeutic
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely the BEST western ever produced! One can watch it numerous times and with each viewing find a different nuance of the main theme that runs through the picture. It also is educational to show the horrors of war, that there are no winners, and specifically how the North abused its power during this American conflict between states. Finally, it is therapeutic in that we all at some time feel victimized with no possibility of justice from the authorities. Josey gets "justice", and discovers that it does not heal. His new family at the ranch is his healing. Great movie!

Movie Review: "I reckon so"
Summary: 5 Stars

Too many people miss the point of this movie and this is important because it elucidates the true spirit of American thinking. The movie says, "leave me alone and I'll do the same for you; push me too far and I'll give you a war you won't believe" (whoops - borrowed that last part from Rambo) You see the parallel in these two movies and in our foreign policy when it's done right.

If you live in maryland, you'll need to look at this movie about once a month to keep your sanity.

This movie ranks #1 with Amadeus, Dead Poets and Good Will Hunting coming in behind.

Movie Review: The Ouotlaw Josey Wales
Summary: 5 Stars

This is, in my opinion the best western ever made. Although based on a fictional novel, it does have a bit of fact as well. Riding under the black flag of "Bloody Bill" Anderson, who is seen very briefly at the beginning of the movie....This story closely resembles the lives of the James and Youngers in the final years of the civil war and shortly therafter.Overall for sheer entertainment value it is a superb film, Clint Eastwood, as always, has some very memorable lines. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has an interest in the west or post civil war era.

Movie Review: Classic Clint!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you could only watch two of Clint Eastwood's westerns, "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Unforgiven" would by my choices!

Chief Dan George and Clint have a chemistry that adds humor and depth to the main story line of revenge, retribution, and a journey for justice. Sandra Locke, with her doe-eyed innocence, adds a little gentle feminity to the picture.

The movie is exciting, suspenseful and rewarding. No one is better as a wronged-man-evening-the-score than Clint Eastwood and this is one of his most memorable roles.
