Movie Reviews of The Outlaw Josey Wales

Movie Review: Clint Eastwood's favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Outlaw Josey Wales" was declared "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry film. Well, I just read that to be honest. Well but ain't that somethin? They don't just do that with any old film. Guess folks in the future will be able to watch "The Outlaw Josey Wales" too. Maybe thousands of years from now.

Anyways, I love me a great western movie but to tell ya the truth I'd select a lot of 'em to be thrown in the trash or burned. Garbage! But that goes with any genre. This film is special tho. In fact I've always LOVED it going back to when I watched it on TV with my dad. Quality father and son time. I remember us getting a kick outta Clint, I mean Jose, spitting his tobacco on that carpetbagger's white coat. And him sending those Union boys on a Missouri boat ride. I also liked the old Indian man. I still love this movie. In my top 5 favorite westerns. Clint Eastwood is the man.

Movie Review: One against the world western classic
Summary: 5 Stars

The historical details are questionable but the passion is real. In this story, Eastwood is a man fighting a lost cause against an unbeatable foe intent on his demise. It is him against the world. The individual raging against leviathon to the very end. In the end, perhaps too late, the fighting must end and he must make peace with his past and himself. Interspersed through the story is a light love interest (not the sappy near-X-rated lust of most modern movies) and some great humor one-liners, "Hows it work on tobacco stains?", that will keep you laughing despite the sad tale. For historical accuracy on the Missouri guerrilla war with a great plot as well, also watch Ang Lee's underappreciated "Ride With the Devil." But for the classic Eastwood action-adventure, you will want your own copy of Josey Wales.

Movie Review: Ya can't get em all Josey..
Summary: 5 Stars

Forrest Carter wrote three books of note. The Education of Little Tree, Watch for Me on the Mountain and Gone to Texas/Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales. The last one, Clint made into The Outlaw Josey Wales staring Clint of course. This is a great western that Clint even liked, as the extras on the DVD show. Here we have a loner type that joins the fight against the Red Legs, that killed his wife and son, and after his outfit get massacred becomes an outlaw. He keeps picking up strays all the way to the final battle scene. I know Clint got the Oscar for "Unforgiven" but I enjoyed Outlaw Josey Wales much more. This is a movie that is worth adding to your collection. John Vernon's line to Senator Lane of...."Senator don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining"...is classic.

Movie Review: Another Wonderful Offering By Clint Eastwood!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This would have to be one of my favourite Western movies. It concerns a farmer named Josey played by Clint Eastwood whose family are brutally murdered by renegade Northern soldiers in the Civil War. Josey then joins the fight and he is soon on the run to the Indian Nations. This movie is very funny at times which is quite rare for a Western. Josey is a loner who just wants his solitude but by the end of the movie his entourage includes two Native Americans, one old lady, a pretty young girl (Sondra Locke), a couple of guys who frequent the local dry saloon, a dance hall girl PLUS a dog!!! The late Chief Dan George is also wonderful in this movie and helps to reveal Josey's humanity. Do yourself a big favour and rent or buy this movie!!!

Movie Review: Arguably the best
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm the kind of guy that can (and has) had conversations with people about the best movies ever made in certain genres. Any time the discussion moves to westerns, most people I have had this discussion with agree, this is one of, if not the absolute best western ever made. There are lots of classics, and lots of great choices for that title, but even if this movie is not your choice for #1, it's probably in the top 5. Terrific characters, terrific cast, great story. The only weak spot is Sandra Locke, although this is one of her better performances. Unfortunately, that's not saying much IMO. All in all, a classic, and a great movie, even if you don't normally like westerns.
