Movie Review: The Osmonds-Live in Las Vegas 50th Anniversary Reunion Concert
Summary: 5 Stars

I love it!! I have been a huge fan of the Osmonds since I was about 5 years old and I'm nearly 44!! It brings back such great memories of my childhood. The Osmonds are such a wonderful, talented family and I think it's soooooo cool that after 50 years they still perform together. The DVD showed the concert with clips inserted of each of the family members talking about their lives together. Andy Williams was even included to wish them well on their 50th anniversary. It's a great DVD and I highly recommend it!!

Movie Review: Not perfect, but still very worthwhile...
Summary: 4 Stars

For the sheer, simple pleasure of watching the seven performing members of the Osmond family reunite on stage for the first time in over 25 years, this dvd set is worth owning. The real on-stage reunion is between Donny and the original quartet of Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay, the five of whom have not performed together as The Osmond Brothers since the early '80s (although various combinations of the brothers, including youngest brother Jimmy, continued performing together throughout the '80s, '90s, and 2000's). The seven siblings, including sister Marie, appear to be truly having a party, despite the ocassional misstep or flubbed lyric. It is especially gratifying to see Alan back on stage, sometimes playing piano, sometimes singing out fron with his family (for health-related reasons, he retired from perfoming ten years ago). Vocally, the siblings are in top form, their voices having gained texture and richness with maturity since their '70s heyday--individually, each voice is distinctive and pure, but as with most family groups, it is their multi-part harmonizing which really catches the ear. Their signature concert closers, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and the spine-tingling, gospel-tinged "Are You Up There/I Believe" (on Disc 2), in which they are joined on-stage by hearing-impaired oldest brothers, Virl and Tom (who perfom their parts by signing the lyrics), are particularly moving.

Disc 1 features the special which aired on PBS, plus interviews inserted between songs that lend historical perspective and serve as introductions to songs that immediately follow. The brothers' recollections of "Osmondmania", and the accompanying archival footage, might be startling to viewers who either don't remember or were simply unaware of the massive impact this family had on pop culture in the '70s. Interviews with longtime friend and mentor Andy Williams are included, along with snippets from The Andy Williams Show, on which the Brothers appeared regularly throughout the '60s. Many of the family's biggest hits are performed, at least in part, most memorably the full-bodied, warmly delivered "Love Me for a Reason", and the energetic, almost cultish favorite, "Crazy Horses".

On Disc 2, bonus performances are added in piecemeal fashion, including several hits from the original quartet's and Marie's quite successful forays into country music during the '80s. And lest we forget that heartthrob Donny is a well-established entertainer in his own right, Disc 2 includes attention-grabbing solo performances of "Breeze on By" and "Will It Go Round in Circles".

It is true that these performances are edited and arranged out-of-sequence, so the feel of a full concert is missing (for that I highly recommend the Brothers 2006 Live in London concert dvd). I would've liked fuller treatment of a few songs, as well as anything that would've highlighted the brothers' skills as musicians, but overall, this 2-disc set presents a fairly comprehensive overview of the family's 50-year career. The warmth which exists between the Osmonds and their enthusiastic, loyal audience is palpable--that their fans know every lyric and dance move says a lot about the endurance of this family's music and popularity.

The packaging is bare bones (the menu on the back cover does not even mention the interviews, and there is no insert). I don't have a fine enough ear to detect any major shortcomings in sound quality, and whatever there are didn't detract from my enjoyment of the program.

Movie Review: 50th Anniversary 2DVD Collection is a must have
Summary: 5 Stars

The 2 DVD collection is a must have if you're an Osmond-fan. The 1st DVD is a nice flow of the actual 50th Anniversary show at the Orleans....and includes behind the scene, one-on-one interviews with each sibling edited in between songs. I kind of wish this is what we saw on PBS as I think that the sales would have gone through the roof. However--I'm telling you now....get this DVD.

DVD #2 is a bonus track with songs they performed that were shown on the PBS special, but were not put into the 1st DVD. It includes their less popular hits....and shows their diversity as entertainers.

Nice job Osmonds. Thanks for coming together to make this DVD a possiblity. I wasn't in Vegas...but this is certainly a great addition to my Osmond collection/memorabilia.

Movie Review: waste of money
Summary: 1 Stars

just good to see them perform live again but the quality of this dvd is poor and sounds bad period.

Movie Review: GLORIOUS!
Summary: 5 Stars

This DVD set is a treasure - as is this amazing family! What a remarkable milestone for this glorious family - 50 years entertaining us with their beautiful voices, sincerity and humor! Most all the hits are here (70's, 80's, 90's, 00's!), along with touching memories from all the siblings - I was enchanted from start to finish! Quality - picture and audio, top notch! Old fan?...New fan?....On The Fence Fan? - Don't hesitate, BUY THIS - you will LOVE it!
