Movie Reviews of The Orphanage

Movie Review: Pretty good ghost story
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a better story then I thought it would be and not what I expected it to be. Youo would kinda think you were going to see a very scary and evil film but it's not really. I mean, there are some parts that make you jump but its more of a story of love and release. I cant think of another way of putting it without telling the ending. I liked the story and thought it was very endearing, if not sad as to what really happened. If you are looking for a hollywood ghost story with blood and terrifying ghosts, then dont watch this. Thats not what this is about abd you will be disappointed. This is more of a traditional ghost story.
Also, if you dont like subtitles, dont get it. It's in spanish and it didnt have a dubbing option (which I hate anyway). At least on this edition.

Movie Review: Del Toro does it again!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before I go into this movie review, let one thing be said: THIS IS A SPANISH MOVIE, IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT, DON'T WATCH IT! So many people dismiss watching this because they don't want to read subtitles, Spanish is an easy language and beautiful language, learn it.
The movie:
This is by far, one of the creepiest and thrilling movies I've seen in a long while. My hair was standing straight up on the back on my neck for the latter half of the movie. I just can't stress enough how utterly and honestly creepy this is. Del Toro is an amazing director who doesn't need blood, gore and effects to make his movies true. I'd vote for this movie to be one of the best of the year. Best horror movie, Best Thriller, Best Foreign movie, Best BEST AND BEST!!!!

Movie Review: Awesome flick
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was awesome. No gore, no nasty bloody scenes. But the fact is, I was drawn in pretty quickly, and despite the fact that it's not your "usual" horror flick or a "typical" scary movie, I was on the edge of my seat with the suspense, and the way the scenes were done. The main character was well-done, and quite well-acted. It draws you in more and more as the story goes, then comes together and answers all your questions at the end. Believe me, that's the cool part. You WON'T know what happens until the end. The film coloration, (much of it is done is grays and blues) only adds to the overall effect of this movie. I really enjoyed it, and I would recommend it for a nice dark rainy night when you watch it alone or with someone else. You WILL be riveted.

Movie Review: Chills, Thrills, and Goosebumps!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is another brilliant film produced by Del Toro and directed by Juan Antonio Bayona.

The story slowly unfolds as a little girl named Laura is adopted by a family from an orphanage. As an adult we later find Laura herself along with her husband Carlos has adopted an adorable little boy named Simón. She moves back into the orphanage where she grew up and tries to put together a school for special needs children. The orphanage; however, has a deep secret of it's own.

You will find yourself transported in an almost adult like fairy tale as the film goes through a loss of innocence, two loving parents, and the supernatural.

Best viewed: in complete darkness and with the volume up high!

Movie Review: A Classic Is Born
Summary: 5 Stars

'El Orfanato' ('The Orphanage') is a sorrowful, hauntingly beautiful, and quite terrifying ghost story. It is also sharply written, exquisitely acted, scored, and shot, and superbly directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, astonishingly his first feature film. I'm a lifelong ghost/horror fan; I've seen it three times now, and it never fails to cast its spell, stir my emotions, or impress me anew with the finely-calibrated artistry of its execution (and also chill me to the bone). 'The Innocents' (1961) is my ultimate touchstone where cinematic ghost stories are concerned; IMHO 'The Orphanage' is pretty much its equal in every way, one of the very very few films that are, and truly one for the ages. Brilliant!
