Movie Review: Extremely moving, and very funny!!

"The Opposite Of Sex" is such an extraordinary film. If you think a comedy can't move you, and if you think a drama can't be funny, you must watch this movie. It does exactly that! The acting is top notch. While all the actors in the film deserve recognition for their work, the one that stands out the most is Lisa Kudrow. She was [cheated] out of an Oscar nomination, and win for that matter. The story is very intruiging, and original. A hard thing for a comedy these days. Also, this movie has some of the funniest lines I have ever heard, I laughed till I cried! The best thing about this film is the ending. A wonderfully poignant tapestry that will stick with you long after the movie is over. This one stays with you long after it is over, and is an unforgetable, and wonderful experience.Movie Review: Brilliant!

While Christina Ricci certainly gives the best preformace of her (short) career, Lisa Kudrow truly carries the film, through her brilliant, New York Film Critics award-winning portrayal of Lucia, a bitter, sarcastic school teacher whose brother has just died of AIDS. Ricci receieved a Golden Globe nomination and the film itself won two Independent Spirit Awards, including Best First Feature. Despite it's countless other awards, The Opposite of Sex did not receieve anywhere near the amount of recognition it deserved. It is a brilliant, hilarous, and at times, insightful comedy that I can guarantee will be spending much time in my VCR. For fans of independent, offbeat, dark comedies, The Opposite of Sex is a surefire winner. Christini Ricci will make your jaw drop with her self-centered, selfish, reckless, and over-the-top behavior as Dedee Truitt. Her bitingly sarcastic narration adds much to the film and made me laugh out loud. As outstanding as Ricci is, Lisa Kudrow also manages to shine as Dedee's goody-two-shoes arch-emeny (yes, these two are out for blood in the movie).
Is this movie for everyone? Certainly not. If you do like being hit over the head with shockingly dark humor, then give this movie a try. There actually is some heart underneath all the back-stabbing, betrayals, crime, and seediness in here, too.
Movie Review: Dark, edgy comedy with a good story

I liked this film. I saw it in the theater first and bought it when it was put on home video. I've shown it to several friends and they all enjoyed it. Lisa Kudrow and Christina Ricci are great in this film. Unfortunately some people will be offended by the un-pc views of Lisa Kudrow's character, Lucia, but I guess the truth hurts. Great characters and great writing. The film touches on other lifestyles, the consequences of careless choices, and differing opinions with biting wit. The fact that this film was so good prompted me to watch Don Roos follow-up, All Over the Guy, which was one of the all-time worst films ever made.Movie Review: Cool and real!
