Movie Reviews of The Omega ManMovie Review: Holy Moses...One of Hestons Best! Summary: 5 Stars
Of those reviewers that felt that this film fell short of Hestons other Sci Fi films--shame on them. We, who have seen this one know the plot...Charlton Heston plays a government scientist that holds the key to survival...the antidote to the biological weapon his government help create, a deadly plague that either kills or genetically mutates the survivors of the disease and drives them insane. He, Dr. Nevill, is Satan to the mutated survivors--activly pursuing and killing them (putting them out of their misery). Hey--it's them or him--I vote for survival. I think the only thing I would do different is move out of the city, away from those REALLY creepy half dead zombies.I understand Hestons caracter refused to give in to them and stay where he was..but......The real point is--even though this movie is based on the R. Mattheson book--I am Legend--and not really close to the original story..who cares? The movie is good on it's own. Put it this way...unless I am in bed and can pull the covers over my head--I still won't watch this film downstaires in the dark by myself...but then neither my wife or kids will watch this with me either....It is a bitter-sweet film and you almost feel releaved rather than sad when Heaston is killed in the end--he was the one who was truely tormented.
Movie Review: One of the better End Of The World type movies Summary: 5 Stars
Germ warfare has brought about the end of the world, almost.
As end of the world movies go, this one is pretty good. It has good writing with a decent plot. That in and of itself puts it far
ahead of most films you see today, but what really sets this one apart is the acting ability of Charlton Heston. He really was one
of the great actors of the 20th century even if many of his films were, like this one, more than a little on the odd side.
The recent remake of this film, I Am Legend, isn`t quite as good. Remakes are soldom as good as the original. But as remakes go,
I Am Legend was a pretty good effort. And again, mainly due to the ability of the main actor. In that case, Will Smith. Who while he may not be in quite the same class as Heston, he is close and getting better every year. Give him a few more years and Smith may
well be as good or better than Heston was.
If you like science fiction, I recomend both films. Heston and Smith both do an excellent job of playing Robert Neville. They both
make you believe that their character has been alone in a very dangerous world for three years. Lonely, mind numbed, and maybe
more than a little nuts.
Movie Review: Charlton Heston was the ultimate Robert Neville Summary: 5 Stars
We owe Charlton Heston a great debt for helping science fiction along the path of maturity by providing us with the brilliantly portrayed Robert Neville. This is Heston's typically gifted work, and the movie to me never gets old. The casting was superb. (The latest remake, "I am Legend," with Will Smith was a horror film only in the sense that it made me wince to watch it. I love Will Smith, but casting him as a brilliant scientist was a huge stretch. He was simply too young to be an MD with research experience and a colonel in the army as well.) Heston, in this film, is the quintessential man who never gives up. He imbues his character with admirable qualities in the way only a great actor could. You just have to find yourself pulling for Neville as he struggles on and on, refusing to roll over and surrender. I find the film dated only in that Neville in The Omega Man was not a victim, he was a traditional hero. As Heston/Neville remarked in the film, as his character watched a generator-powered endless re-run of an old film, "They sure don't make movies like that anymore."

Movie Review: Mega Omega Summary: 5 Stars
The Good Things
*Excellent story with thrilling action.
*Although not particuarly deep, Charlton Hesten's character rocks. He is resourceful and well-prepared. Not to mention, his performance is awesome.
*The other characters are interesting. Great bad guys.
*Lots of good photography.
*Strong theme of self-sacrifice at the end (sorry if I gave it away...).
The Bad Things
*It's become very dated, and some things from the 1970s are strongly evident (funky music, girls with afros, the clothes, etc).
*Probably isn't accurate to the original novel.
*One or two slow parts.
*How the heck did the one girl suddenly turn into a mutant at the end?!
Despite being an obvious product of the 70s, this film is classy and fun. There is lots of exciting action. Many of the settings and ideas are interesting. It is a satisfying blockbuster-style film all the way through, even with its ending. It may not be as deep or vivid as the latest rendition "I Am Legend," but I consider this one to be more entertaining.
Movie Review: Fantastically entertaining reimagining of "I Am Legend" Summary: 5 Stars
Forget the new one with Will Smith, my favorite adaptation of Richard Matheson's seminal novella "I Am Legend" is this one. There is plenty of cheesy camp on display - particularly the dated score - but the movie remains exciting, thoughtful, and entertaining.
The late, great Charlton Heston is outstanding as Robert Neville, living in the post-germ-warfare wasteland that the world has become.
The movie is a fairly drastic reworking of the Matheson book, but in one very significant way it is much more faithful than the new "I Am Legend": the infected have established their own separate society, which they believe to be more valid than the "normal" Neville. The new version loses this entirely by turning the infected population into mindless zombies. "The Omega Man" retains this thematic element, and is all the better for it.
