Movie Reviews of The Office: Season OneMovie Review: The best "original" idea Summary: 5 Stars
With a style vastly different than any other show on television today, "The Office" is set as a fake documentary in your basic office setting. Anyone who has every worked a job in their life can relate to this show. All areas are included from the office romance to the annoying pranks.
Steve Carell is the great new rising comedy actor of the decade and plays the perfect boss who knows so little about his job and his staff. His start in movies slowly gave him attention but is now quickly getting more with his perfect timing and classic facial expressions.
The style of the show, "borrowed" from the original BBC version, has a completely different pace from other shows banking on frequent awkward pauses and confused looks. This show is by far the greatest sitcom to hit TV in many, many years. Anyone who has yet to investigate The Office should do so, and may find a new favorite television comedy.
Movie Review: My favorite show Summary: 5 Stars
For about 5 years now this has been my favorite show. I found a used copy of Season 1 for about $5 at my local video store. After watching it, I immediately went out and bought Season 2 new.
Know that season one consists of 8 (if I am remembering correctly off the top of my head) episodes on one disc. If you haven't seen the show before, I would definitely rent season one first to see if you'd even be interested. If you're new to the show, I recommend watching through half of season 2 before you decide against it.
The show is a "mockumentary" that follows the Scranton, PA branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. I know a couple people who don't watch the show because they say it makes them uncomfortable because a lot of the humor deals with the characters finding themselves saying or doing socially awkward things. You just have to watch to know what I'm talking about!
Movie Review: Best Comedy on TV Summary: 5 Stars
Season One of the Office was light in quantity of episodes but heavy in laughter. Watch the BBC version and then this version make up your own mind which you like better. But for my time the American version, the cast, and the chemistry could not be better. This is fantastic comedy!!! Particular favorite episodes are Diversity Day and Basketball. There is tremendous acting that goes on in this series. Every actor has a role that they seem born to be in and they deliver some fantastic performances. The actors are very believable and if you've ever been in an office environment you can really identify the personality types. You find yourself thinking "I worked with someone exactly like that". Steve Carrell is great as Michael Scott, he pulls off performances that will definitely earn him an emmy in the future. Deadpan comedy at it's best. Can't wait for Season 2 to come out on DVD.
Movie Review: I'd give it 500 stars if I could! Summary: 5 Stars
For those who say that working in an office is not like this, and you never had a boss like this, I invite you to sit in my desk for a week. We have mandatory award shows that we can't bring our spouses to, we have Emergency Evacuation Capitans, and have had select men in our office have to sit through a video on sexual harrassment (all from season 2). I'm convinced someone from MY office writes this show!!!
This series is priceless. Obviously- it's a little exaggerated, but isn't everything? It's ENTERTAINMENT!!!!! You're not laughing at Michael being mean and laughing because someone's hurt. You're laughing because you know that there are many people out there who actually do say these things and even though you hear them all too often- you're still shocked when they do!!! Lighten up and enjoy!
I'm ordering the DVD right now!
Movie Review: US version stands on its own feet Summary: 5 Stars
When NBC tried to remake Coupling, the first episode used the exact same script from the British version. NBC did not make the same mistake here. NBC's Office stands on its own feet. I wont say that the US version is better, just different, while Carell is no where near Gervais, i feel the supporting cast of the NBC version is much stronger, and the characters should be much more likable to an American audience. The British version i felt lacks any characters around the Office to relate to or even look up to. Wheras the US version has Jim, a twenty something apathetic unmotivated intelligent employee, that is reminiscent of several characters from Office Space. While the average american audience couldnt get behind a series like the British original, Jim may be strong enough of a character to pull in viewers and make the US version a mainstream hit
