Movie Reviews of The Odd CoupleMovie Review: The Funniest Movie of All Time Summary: 5 Stars
There's an adage that says opposites attract. This may be true for magnets, and for some, in their relationships. However, this saying doesn't apply for Felix Ungar (Jack Lemmon) and Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau), two divorced men who decide to share a New York apartment.
Felix is a compulsive cleaner and he proves that cleanliness is next to madness. On the other hand, Oscar is slovenly and his evening isn't complete without dirtying up his apartment. Individually, they are who they are. Put them together and you have "The Odd Couple."
Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" is a comedy that can make you laugh each and every time you watch it. Simon's script is filled with humorous dialogue which is given more comedic life with the two lead actors. Nobody delivers those lines better than Lemmon and Matthau.
"The Odd Couple" is possibly the funniest movie of all time. 41 years later and the laughs are still coming. "The Odd Couple" is a film that withstood the test of time and continues to attract new viewers. It is and will always be the original comedy classic.
Movie Review: A GREAT COMEDY CLASSIC GETS EVEN BETTER ON DVD!!! Summary: 5 Stars
With this version, you do get to see a lot more then even most current DVDs of movies let you see. The widescreen lets you see everything as it was meant to be seen. Among them are: the nasty shocked look the waitress gave to Oscar when he went "ain't she c-cute?!", the whole poker table instead of half and half, and the natural triple play Oscar missed when Felix called just to remind him what not to eat that night. There were plenty more things on here, including a theatrical trailer, which (if you pay attention to detail like I do) shows how they had to reshoot footage for the trailer (which I can tell by how certain things were spoken, etc.) because they lacked the technology to make multiple copies of the same footage. Worth it to see a classic comedy the way it should've been seen.
Movie Review: A perfect partnership Summary: 5 Stars
Oscar (Walter Mattheau) is sports journalist and slob who lives contentedly in his messy apartment until he invites his friend Felix (Jack Lemmon) to stay with him. Felix is newly seperated from his wife and very depressed. Soon he is driving Oscar crazy by his incessant cleaning and tidying, and he even manages to spoil their weekly poker game. Worst of all, he ruins the romantic liasion that Oscar has planned for them with their neighbours, the Pigeon sisters. It's the last straw for Oscar.
jack lemmon and Walter Mattheau are both extremely funny and work brilliantly together, and the supporthing players have their moments too. I love this film not just because it is very funny, but because it reminds me of my husband and I, he being Felix and me Oscar.
Movie Review: the odd laughs don't stop coming Summary: 5 Stars
a very nice insight this movie gives
watching it again and again and again when I can on my player
the first time I put it in my player and watched it from start to end
I laughed, I cried. I sympathized. truly a great movie
it touches you and makes you laugh when it can. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matheau are great actors. see them in Out to Sea, and other movies if you can. even though they both passed away recently years ago. 1 year for one and 2 for the other. they both are great comedians and really literally I mean this "add character to their characters" they should never be forgotten. very talented men and actors. if they or their parents were alive they'd be so proud of them (themselves) see this movie if you haven't
Movie Review: " WE'RE OUT OF CORNFLAKES! .....F. U. ! " Summary: 5 Stars
The original film that inspired the hit TV show is still a very funny and smart comedy! I had not seen this movie in many years and I found myself laughing out loud through out this exceptional film. A rare mix of comedy and an insightful look at the many layers that makes us all human! Lemmon and Matthau are perfectly cast in this classic as the two polar opposite buddies who end up sharing an apartment.
The TV show of the same name was one of the few truly successful movie to TV show tranformations. M*A*S*H* was another one that worked well. Tony Randall and Jack Klugman had great chemistry if not as layered, but this original film holds up well! The DVD transfer is very good, but only a trailer is included for an extra.
