Movie Reviews of The Nun's Story

Movie Review: One of Audrey's finest
Summary: 5 Stars

The controversial best seller became a superb film thanks to the
magnificent performance given by Audrey Hepburn. She was surrounded by greats like Dames Edith Evans, Peggy Ashcroft and
in one of his earliest (and finest) roles Peter Finch deserved an
Academy Award. The film never bogs down and depicts the life of
a nun in the late 1920's and of her constant struggle. One wonders in 2006 why the religious rules were so strict but it was a different time. There are some fine cameo roles by Colleen Dewhurst, Ruth White, Barbara O'Neil and Mildred Dunnock. I am
delighted this is finally on dvd. I was keeping my laserdisc
player just for this.

Movie Review: Moving and Inspirational Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Audrey Hepburn is best known for playing the leading lady in romantic-comedies, but this movie is one of the few that she made that is full drama.

Normally, I would tell you the summary and plot of the movie, but I'm sure there are tons of reviewers who give a very detailed look into the movie. So instead of that, I'm here to say that if you're ready for a different side of Audrey as an actress, PLEASE buy, rent, borrow, do ANYTHING to see this movie, because this really shows Audrey's incredible, God-give talent. And if you enjoyed this film, I'm sure you'd love to see another one of her dramas, Wait Until Dark.

Movie Review: Fantastic Character Study
Summary: 5 Stars

You do not have to be Catholic to appreciate the towering schievement that "The Nun's Story" is. This is an example of what Hollywood used to do very well in portaying an intimate character study against an epic backdrop. Audrey Hepburn is simply tremendous as Sister Luke, a woman torn between her devotion to God and service to humanity. Peter Finch matches her as the world-weary humanistic doctor. As a Catholic and educated by nuns this film gave me an appreciation for the sacrifices these woman make to better serve Jesus Christ and humanity. It's surprising that a film of this magnitude took so long to make it to DVD.

Movie Review: The Nun's Story
Summary: 5 Stars

Zinnemann's "The Nun's Story," showcasing the luminous Audrey Hepburn in her prime, contemplates hardship, devotion, and a very special kind of self-realization. A literate, nuanced drama with size, scope and color, the film boasts superb location photography and uniformly fine performances, both from the young leads and two English Dames in support: namely, Edith Evans and Peggy Ashcroft, playing senior nuns who guide Sister Luke along her often thorny path. Based on Kathryn Hulme's autobiographical novel, "Story" is an affecting, heartfelt epic of inner struggle.

Movie Review: One of My Top Five Favorite Movies
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know why, but this movie has always moved me. I have loved it since I was a kid, and when it came out on VHS, it was mine. I have watched it so many times that my tape is failing. I am extremely happy that it is FINALLY coming out on DVD. Gabrielle has a vocation, she gives up a family that loves her to enter the convent. She wants to be sent to the Congo to nurse the natives. But her faith, or more accurately, her obedience is tested over and over again. The end is not certain, it leaves you to ponder and determine how you would end the movie.
