Movie Reviews of The Neverending StoryMovie Review: Great movie with a deep message... Summary: 5 Stars
I just have to say that this is my second favorite movie of all time (only beaten by the Star Wars saga).
This movie is just fantastic... imaginative and with very deep meaning and messages. Everytime I see it, I find more things about it... this is a much more complex movie than any of the child movies produced these days.
And it has proved to be timeless. I saw it when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and the kids of today love it as much as I did in the early 80's. Great effects, great production design, music, costumes, sets, story, characters... wow !
I wonder what could have happened if Wolfgang Petersen back then decided to make the sequel a couple of years later, with the same actors, same crew, etc... It'd have been great !
And just to finish... I know you'll agree with me: I WANT A MORE DECENT VERSION OF THE MOVIE... I mean: a nice package, the movie in Widescreen format(shame on you letterbox!!), 5.1 surround sound, mastered image and sound tracks, documentaries, deleted scenes, conceptual drawings and artwork, production stills, TV spots, posters... everything that most of the "decent" DVD releases have in the present.
Come on... I've seen much more mediocre and less classic movies in "Special collector's deluxe edition Director's Cut enhanced ultimate criterion collections"
Am I wishing too much ? Perhaps, but remember: "Wunsch ohne Begrenzungen".
Movie Review: A MUST OWN MOVIE Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie at the theatre and loved it! I had the VHS copy for years and now the DVD. Truth be told, you can watch just the Noah Hathaway parts in half an hour, fastforwarding. Some people have just taped that part. He will forever be known for it.
This was done before all the extreme animation came in. Noah did his own stunts as well.
The most asked question is: What is the name Bastion yelled out?
The part that touched me the most was when the Rock Biter told of how weak he really was, even though he looked strong. We are all like that, no matter what happens in our lives. As many times as I've watched this movie, I always tear up at this part.
The color and photography are SO wonderful.
I will be 59 in a week and I can't see myself EVER tiring of it. People can wax poetic about acting and directing, but this movie must just been seen for itself!
I have felt for years that children are having their imaginations taken away from them by the tv. We need to read more books. I taught myself to read at 3, and it was a good thing, as in my day they didn't do anything about dyslexic children in Catholic schools. I still read mainly fantasy all the time, and I write as well. I hope there will never come a day when I can't give the childlike princess a new name!!!

Movie Review: Enchanting fantasy film Summary: 5 Stars
There's nothing that beats a classic like the original 1984 version of The Never-ending story ( Die Unendliche Geschichte is the German title). The Never-ending story is a charming, and heart warming children's film accessible to people of all ages. It is the ideal in the standards of 1980s fantasy films with very surreal settings and strange yet lovable creatures.
A boy reads a mysterious storybook to find everything he's reading is happening in a strange yet wonderful other world. The story teaches about friendship, love, compassion, the value of imagination and belief and of growing up. The Never-Ending story is such a part of my childhood and has such a powerful hold over my imagination that I still get choked up when I hear the original title track theme song from the film.
I find it tragic that there are many children today who have not yet seen this enchanting classic film. The Never-ending story is based on the novel by Michael Ende and has inspired many film sequels as well as a remake (definitely not as good as the original) and an animated series that aired on HBO in the nineteen nineties.
I think everyone should see this beautiful and fantastic film at least once.
Movie Review: Old film but memorized very much. Summary: 5 Stars
In Japan NeverEnding Story was roadshowed at that time. Because I was 8 years old, couldn't understand the movies that had difficult story. On the other hand, as the age was young, had the eyes that could feel fantasy stories purely, that is, had the pure mind that could feel what bravery or challenging etc was wonderful thing. When I was a adult now, having such a thinking is difficult, that is, when think about [bravery or challenging], in mind needless thinkings are added, resignation, fear, uneasy etc..I was happy that can watch this film when was child. Recently I watched the film on TV aggain after an interval of twenty years. But even if I am a adult, the moving mind remained, I was moved very much again as I was a boy. For instance when the horse sinked into a marsh, I that was child cried, and when I watched the scene again on TV, I have the emotion of the sorrow. when we get to be adults, in many meaning we lose the mind that we had in children age, for instance, passion, trial, tenderness etc. Because we are followed by time, money, benefit etc, tend to forget such important things. But by watching the movies, I feel that got such mind again in addition to have remembered the scenery of my child age. Thank you for reading poor English.
Movie Review: Imaginative and beautiful Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the most wonderfully imaginative movies that every child should see. It has wonderful imagery as well as a tone that encourages them to do their own imagining.
I remember loving this movie when I was a child. When it came to DVD, I bought it up immediately and found, to my surprise, that I still loved it. That's the charm of a well-told story. This is one that children will eat up and parents will enjoy watching with them: both to see their children's eyes light up as well as to simply watch this movie for themselves.
Some of the effects are a little cheesily done by today's standards, but you might be surprised to find that the vast majority are still quite nice even under the more jaded scrutiny of today's audience. That is a testament both of the love and care that was put into constructing this film, and also the simple fact that simple effects, used effectively, can be just as powerful to a story as full CG rendering.
The magic of this film gets diluted in the followups, but this is a classic that all children should see.
