Movie Reviews of The Natural: Director's Cut

Movie Review: Blu Ray Review - Disappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm updating my review now that I have the blu ray. Obviously, this is one of the best baseball movies of all time, if not one of the best movies of all times. However, the blu ray is a big letdown. Its a very minor improvement over the original dvd release. Strictly addressing the picture quality and sound quality, it achieves little to merit the additional purchase. I so wish I could report otherwise.

The best baseball movie of all time. It depicts a glorious era of baseball in which men were men, and the good players were genuine heroes (for the most part - obvious exception Ty Cobb). This is in such unfortunate stark contrast to our present state of steroids, prima donnas and an unforgivable lack of english speaking skills. These men played baseball because they loved it, got by on primitive gear, and, again, were heroes. And its the heroic nature of Hobbs that makes it so wonderful. He was a hero, and he knew it, and he respected his role. This is what baseball needs to return to; until it does, the only worthwhile aspect of the watching experience is the hotdogs.

Movie Review: One of the WORST movies I've seen
Summary: 1 Stars

A coworker forwarded me a list of '20 movies that make men cry' and the Natural was one I hadn't gotten arount to seeing. (BTW 'Old Yeller' is the ONLY legitimate movie on the list.)
The only reason to cry when seeing this movie is from the pain caused by stabbing youe eyes out with an ice pick to avoid seeing any more. My very first impression was that Redford, besides being a terrible actor, looks about 30 years too old to play the ADULT character. Never mind the complete joke of him as a 19 year old. The plot is about as lame as they come and the ending is just stupid. Really NONE of the characters are believable except possibly Glenn Close but her brief screen time is not sufficient to rescue this abomination.
I realize a lot of guys will want to see this for themselves and there is that masochistic fringe that will enjoy this movie simply because it is so bad.
If you just have to subject yourself to this -- rent Don't buy!

Movie Review: Director has lost sight
Summary: 1 Stars

I don't understand how someone could allow such a sub-par edit of a great film to leak out, and pretend that it is some superior "cut" of the original. Every director's cut I've ever seen carefully improved the existing film (with the exception of George Lucas' nightmares: SW) Barry Levinson forgot the emotion in his own characters if he actually had anything to do with it. The added scenes were cool, but tainted by such an inferior editing job that robs any emotion the film originally had. Bottom Line: The pace of the film is totally off and with no good reason.
The special features should include the original cut so buyers get a decent film in the package. All things considered, The Natural is my favorite movie ever. And they made it into a sloppy hack-job. Terrible.

Movie Review: Completely Dissatisfied!

I couldn't even play my new DVD, The Natural, in my my DVD player or my 2 computers. It came scratched in the wrapping. I have never before received a inoperable product until now. Buyer beware!!
