Movie Reviews of The Nativity StoryMovie Review: Excellent Movie - A Treasure for Years to Come Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful movie that brings Mary, Joseph, the three Wisemen, and a host of other biblical characters in the Christmas story to life. The acting, cinematography, and musical score are very well done.
My husband and I watched this movie a week before Christmas, and then again on Christmas Eve with my mother. She loved it, and both my husband and I agreed that it was even better the second time we saw it! Interestingly, Christmas Carols (both traditional and contemporary) took on enhanced meaning as their words called images from the movie to mind. This is certainly a movie that we'll treasure for years to come as we make it an important part of our Christmas tradition.
This movie is so good, that we're planning to purchase several copies to give as presents next year -- but we'll give them away at Thanksgiving, so that folks will have plenty of time to watch it before Christmas!
Movie Review: A Personal Epic Account Summary: 5 Stars
What makes the Nativity Story different from other films is that it's about a subdued event that just so happens to be the turning point of world events. If you think about it, nothing more significant has ever happened in history, nor will ever eclipse the advent of the Son of God, born in the flesh. As such, the heavens don't go for a lot of fanfare and Hollywood-type special effects to pound the point home. It plays out quietly in seemingly ordinary events, with internal, personal turning points.
The Nativity Story tells the account in a straightforward way without a lot of embellishment, making a personal narrative against the political backdrop of Herod's treachery. The only thing that stuck out as inaccurate was the arrival of the Magi on the same night as the birth. The real plus is that The Nativity Story brings the events to life and lets you feel like a spectator to the turning point in human history.
Movie Review: the Nativity Story Summary: 5 Stars
i don't think that there is another movie depicting The Nativity of Our Lord made as beautifully as this one - though some scenes are clearly made-up by the writer-s, nonetheless, are scenes that enrich the story in all aspects
the portrayal of Saint Joseph is one of the best we have ever seen - deep, thoughtful, spiritually correct as we would expect from The Saint himself -
the portrayal of Holy Mary is just as beautiful, and the whole experience brings one to realize how humble the chaste St Joseph really was in accepting such a great task, to not only take of MARY as his Virgin Spouse, but the task of becoming the foster father of The SON of GOD....it really brings one to realize how hard and yet how willing St Joseph was to accept it, with the help of GOD.
we highly recommend this movie to all families that believe and want to teach their children about the birth of JESUS
A+ 5* in all aspects
Movie Review: A very enjoyable rendition of the timeless story Summary: 5 Stars
You know how sometimes when you are watching a movie you find yourself wondering when it will be over and you are really just left anticipating the completion of the story instead of enjoying the story unfolding? This was NOT the case with this movie. My wife and I enjoyed every minute and I actually found myself hoping that we were not nearing the end of the story several times.
This movie will certainly be added to my collection, and will become a part of our annual Christmas tradition. I highly recommend this movie, though I recommend you preview it before showing to younger children. There is some violence and pre-teens may likely find it boring.
One final note, while the story does a pretty good job of following the christmas story as we read in Matthew 1 and Luke 1-2:40, it's not exact. However, in my opinion, the differences do not detract from this films value.
Movie Review: Great Love Story Summary: 5 Stars
When people think of the nativity, they usually think of Jesus' birth, and right so. However, the human equation does come into account. The Bible doesn't go into many details regarding the lives of Mary and Joseph, but it did say that Joseph loved her. This movie did a wonderful job in portraying that love. I was moved by the way he cared for her.
Also, I think it's a probable account of the emotions Mary and Joseph experienced during this period of time. She wasn't married and conceived a child, so naturally, there would be rumors flying around her. The way the writers handled this fact (which isn't mentioned in the Bible) made the account more real to me. I thought overall, it was a good historical account as well. I think it's a film that anyone can appreciate, whether you're looking for a tender love story or for a visual representation of the gospels of Matthew and Luke.
