Movie Reviews of The Mysterians

Movie Review: THE MYSTERIANS
Summary: 4 Stars

Growing up in the 60's,I watched ALOT of sifi movies. The Mysterians is one of my favorites. Production finished prior to sputnik and was released in Japan around Christmas 1957. This movie has it all! Aliens, robots, death rays and plenty of explosions. What I find most interesting for a foriegn movie (of this period) is that the USA helps defeat the Mysterians.
The special effects are first rate for 1957,designs and artwork exceptional. This movie is a real treat for the sifi fan.
The dvd release has a new ADR. I really would like to have the original dub tracks, the new version has left out some dialog tracks(some scenes where the mysterians are thrashing about with no speech!)However, the music score and soundtrack are first rate!!!
Overall I rate the Mysterians 4 out of 5 stars.

Likes: Restored dvd format
Fantastic musical score
Effects and designs

Dislikes: Missing dialog in new release
robot...dumb

Movie Review: Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
Summary: 4 Stars

I can't imagine anyone buying this movie WITHOUT having seen it in their youth. Sure, the special effects look like upsidedown salad bowls but when this movie came out - it was the best of that time. The Mysterians had everything - alien spacecraft, laser shootouts, space flight, and a musical score I can still remember from childhood. Sci-Fi movies of that time not only had worse special effects (videos of V-2 rockets flipped 90 degrees to appear in horizontal flight), but the effects were only seen on the screen for a short time. Not the Mysterians or its sister movie Battle In Outer Space. This movie is 50's and 60's sci-fi at it's best. I stood in long lines to see this movie and other's of those days such as Gorgo and Destination Moon. Now I'm just waiting to get this classic on DVD.

Movie Review: nice old color scifi movie
Summary: 4 Stars

this movie has potential if they got the original they could fix the effects make them better the sound track needs to be made louder to be more like the current movies but it is still an enjoyable movie and has potential for anew mysterians movie could even be used in gamera movies and spinoffs of godzilla movies such as maybe more mothra movies or some of the other greatures that were on godzilla's side since they aren't making any more godzillas. its disapointing the extra's are not in english. would also be nice if they were to release a boxset of the movies listed in the extras for american release.this movie is not a monster movie but it is still as enjoyable as a godzilla movie.

Movie Review: An escape back to my childhood...
Summary: 4 Stars

Don't expect the usual CGI (that is so common in today's sci-fi productions) from "The Mysterians". This is a good 1950s alien invasion movie with entertaining (and sometimes funny) special effects, simple dialogue, and non-complicated plot. Some of my favorite movies when I was a kid were the ones showing the human battles for survival against invaders from outer space and monsters. " The Mysterians" has a unique monster/robot and an abundance of battles with ray guns and weaponry. Perfect for a sci-fi-loving kid in the 50s. Perfect for a nostalgic escape for an adult.

Movie Review: Mysterians
Summary: 4 Stars

One of Toho's best non-Godzilla movies. While the special effects aren't the best, it was also 1957 when this was made. Ifukube's score is one of his best, especially his millitary march. Very entertaining movie.
