Movie Reviews of The Muppets' Wizard of Oz

Movie Review: Not that bad
Summary: 3 Stars

The latest entry in the Muppets franchise is probably the Henson family's last attempt to make the Muppets "cool" and "modern". Numerous parts of this movie seem contrived solely to make it appeal to the MTV generation. This includes the casting of Ashanti and Queen Latifah as the principal human roles, the cameo of Quentin Tarantino, the strong stereotypical Mexican accent by Toto, and the totally out-of-place CGI scene with Gonzo and the chicken. All of these distract from the movie. But what stays true to the franchise is the Muppets sense of ridiculous humor and witty dialogue. Whether it be Scooter's appearance as the Wizard's secretary, to Beaker's disappearing head, the roles of the muppets themselves were great. And the scene in Poppyfields is sure to draw laughs from crowds of all ages. Overall, I expected better, but not by much.

Movie Review: Not great to me but my 4-year-old daughter loves it
Summary: 3 Stars

The Muppet's Wizard of Oz is not a great addition to the Muppet's collection. To me, it's just okay but my 4-year-old loves it. It lacks the adult intelligence that made the TV Muppet Show so special. The humor here is forced. However, as a show for a 4 year old girl it works. The real Wizard of Oz (1939) is too scary for her but this was her speed. There were a few jokes and images that I thought were a bit much for young kids (like the computer generated woman who looked like she was from a Teen rated video game) but I am a bit on the conservative side when it comes to my child. She's watched this several times (we recorded it off TV)and is one of the movies she wants to share with her playdates.

Movie Review: It was OK
Summary: 3 Stars

We needed this to keep our Muppet collection up to date, but it was not exactly the strongest movie in the franchise. I did appreciate that they seem to have drawn more from the original book than the classic movie. As the Wicked Pig of the West is considering her options for gathering Our Heroes, she makes several references that will pass right by anybody who hasn't read the originals, and the original encounter with the Wizard is definitely in the style of the book (and folks who have only seen the movie are likely to be confused again).

Movie Review: I understand the gripes, but still OK.
Summary: 3 Stars

Ok, I can understand the other complaints, but I still liked watching the movie. I adore Ms. Piggy! Seeing her as a biker chick-singing diva-wicked witch is a scream! You gotta see how she is "melted". I did cringe once. Fozzy does sound like Ms. Piggy! Now that the Muppets have done the edgy, hip and make jokes about current hot trends movie, please go back to the Muppets we used to love!

Movie Review: I love it but at the same time i hated it!
Summary: 3 Stars

Ashanti did great in this movie she is a very good singer!
Nobody asked the mupphets to remake the wizard of oz.thats
sort of why when the main part of dorthy going to oz is horrible
gonzo is horrible as the tin man.its very confusing, gets
boring and is kind of short.
