Movie Reviews of The Muppets' Wizard of Oz

Movie Review: Muppets version is disappointing
Summary: 2 Stars

We love all the Muppet "remake" films - Muppets Christmas Carol is one of our all time favorites. But Muppets Wizard of Oz is a flop. The story line, in an attempt to modernize the story, is forced and awkward. A shrimp as Toto?! Maybe the movie could have been written outside the Oz storyline - just about a girl who wants more than anything to sing. But the music and script were not believable. Have to say, we did not finish the movie - we thought it that unworthy. Probably on our list of our top ten worst. Boy - were we disappointed.

Movie Review: Horrible! Definitely NOT for Children!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I just finished watching the first half of this movie with my daughter and had to turn it off because it was so repulsive.

Miss Piggy as the Wicked Witch of East tries to kill Dorothy by chopping her head off with a table saw! I just could not believe this movie was intended for children and worse got a mere G rating! Miss Piggy threatens Dorothy that she will take the silver shoes off her 'cold dead carcus'. What is that? Is that something parents want their children to learn? That violence is okay? That harming someone to get their way is an acceptable mode of behaviour? I am thoroughly disgusted with this movie.

What could have been a cute Muppets remake (and yes it was a stretch with modern day computers, cell phones and more brought in) turned out to be complete garbage. No child should watch this movie!

The other thing that bothered me greatly about this movie was that it was marketed to kids and made no mention of violence on the description on the case. From the pictures on the front cover and description on the back cover it seemed like a good family friendly choice. What an outright lie.

As a true Jim Henson fan I am absolutely blown away by how horrible this movie is. The violence is uncalled for and demoralizing. If this is what children are growing up watching what will they be watching as adults?! How very sad that the producers of this film included grotesque violence in their 'made for children' film.

What also bothered me is Pepe the King Prawn's repeated comments about being sexy. How are children supposed to grow up with any kind of morals if the ideas of sexy and sex are being shoved at them from an early age? This movie belongs in the trash compactor. It is violent and chaotic, definitely not funny.

What ever happened to the Muppets' innocence? I am thoroughly disappointed and will be pre-screening any Muppets films from now on before allowing my daughter to watch them. I will not expose her to such garbage.

Movie Review: Easily Forgettable
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm may 19 but still love a good kid's movie once in a while. This is not one of them. Ashanti is yet another singer that wants to do more but like a great many of them she fails miserably. Her songs are fine; it's mostly everything else in this movie that bothers me.

The script is bland with nothing of interest for the older viewers but some mild innuendos and celebrity references. As much as I disliked it, however, I did think that it was nice that they had a few extra tidbits from the book.

Oh, and I'm all for making Dorothy stronger than the original movie but why a wannabe star? Miss Piggy is amusing but not enough to block out the blah performances of the usually wonderful Muppet cast. Oh, and I love Aunt Em and Uncle Henry but their blah reactions to finding Dorothy alive made me laugh out loud.

Bottom Line: An okay rental but nothing to add to the collection.

Movie Review: Really really bad. Muppets turn X-Rated
Summary: 1 Stars

Ok, so that's a little bit of an exaggeration but not by much. How else would you classify the wonderful muppets when they turned from making hilarious jokes about the "fork in the road" (if you don't know that one, rent The Muppet Movie and see what the magic is all about) to Gonzo talking about his nipples or Kermit the frog hanging out with arms outstretched on a stick (he's the scarecrow) and announces, "Hasn't anyone seen The Passion?" Oh my gosh. Poor Jim Henson would be rolling over in his grave. There are also references to Girls Gone Wild and Kermit's sexual conquests. Such a dissapointment!

Movie Review: Got one star only because there is not lesser an option
Summary: 1 Stars

This movie was absolutely horrible. I was horrified at some of the humor in this movie. The constant referral to themselves as "sexy", the put downs and critisism's of the the tasks of some of the characters is not good for a child. A comment by dorothy when putting on her shoes."if these shoes are supposed to make you feel confident and sexy, it worked" Just crap. Kids have enough to deal with. This was pushing it. There was a scene with gonzo and pepe that involved "nipples" A comment of "looking for a good hometown girl" then comparing that home town girl to "girls gone wild" was totally inappropriate. And how about the comments about a "cold dead carcus" There is a lot of underlying humor in it that is not appropriate for children. Many sexual comments and behaviors. I grew up watching muppets and am very disappointed in this one. I am now fighting with walmart, where I bought it, To return it, Apprarently they do not accept returns on open electronics. It is a total waste of money. I can not explain how disappointed and angry I am about this. No child should be able to watch this movie. I never knew that puppets had cleavage until now.

some of the twist in the story, this one from the original is clever, but most is not welcomed. The poppyfields bar, where they pass out from "poppy's", well, we could of done without this movie
